I typically don't say that here, as people here (most of them) generally seem more intelligent. They understand, for the most part, that anything contained in the box which holds the text that I posted, is indeed nothing except my opinion. That is, unless I say it's fact, and accompany that with a link to back up my claims.

However, there are other sites where people aren't as sharp. As much as it pains me to admit such things, I used to be really big into video games. Gaming forums have some of the strangest people I have ever talked to.

I've seen entire threads completely derailed simply because the OP didn't say IMHO or some variation thereof. People would attack the OP saying what he was saying was bs and not true.... Pages and pages of juvenile arguments.

So yeah, for me, that's kind of how I got into the habit of stating what I was saying was just my opinion. You never know when some weirdo is going to call you out and derail the entire thread.

OP, phrases like 'in my opinion' are meant to ease the nature of the exchange by acknowledging/admitting the subjective nature of the beliefs/perceptions that are to follow... A similarly used phrase would be 'it's my perspective'... This leaves room for the other person to share and contribute their perspective/opinion... Typically allows for a much more ammicable exchange...

The flipside of this would be interactions where an individual is claiming his/her (subjective) beliefs/perceptions as 'facts' (to be accepted by all others) and the nature of the exchange feels like the individual is trying to push/force/enforce his/her beliefs on the other person... In these types of interactions, it's much more likely for there to be defensive reactions and hostility...

I tend to do it if I'm writing about a specific person. I also like to state "my theory" again if people are involved.

GLP is a safe haven for the owners of the site, but individuals can still be sued for libel. Libel lawsuits are very real and a tool of the left to limit free speech. You should not kid yourself that it doesn't happen. Many of them have a gag order clause that you cannot discus said libel lawsuit as a fear tactic to further financial penalties.

Other than that I'm of the opinion that if its my opinion than I'm free to state my opinion when my opinion is stated so there can be no mistake that its my opinion unless its not my opinion which in case I would not state it as my opinion.
