Plague is a disease of filth. Whites are in no danger.

Bubonic plague is--comes from rat flea bites.

Pneumonic plague can be weaponized, made into a fine mist, and anyone who breathes it will get pneumnonic plague, and it spreads easily in very high density areas. Madagascar has a some areas of relavtively high density along its east coast, but the rest of the island is low density. Madagascar is 44% larger than California, with 15 million fewer population.

But a weaponized mist sprayed in NYC or any other major metropolis would be disastrous to everyone.

DOOM Might be real within the next 6 months for MANY of the global population.

THE PLAGUE currently killing and infecting hundreds of people in Madagascar and East Africa is even more deadly than the Black Death which left 200 MILLION dead across the world.

A state of emergency has gripped Madagascar with schools and public meeting spaces closed, panic buying and hoarding of antibiotics, and 15,000 teachers being re-trained to spot and isolate those with signs of plague.

But the plague, which has so far killed 123 and left hundreds infected, is a super-strain which is even more infectious and deadly than famous the Bubonic Plague of the 14th century.

The Madagascar Plague is actually THREE plagues.

The first is bubonic - the type which ravaged Europe and the Mediterranean in the thirteen hundreds, leaving up to 60 percent dead.

The second is pneumonic – a super strain of the yersinia pestis bacterium which ALWAYS results in death.

The third, more rare strain, is septecaemic – a life-threatening infection of the blood.

In Madagascar plague is endemic, and flare-ups cause public health emergencies on an almost annual basis but now the nation faces an uncontrolled epidemic which is terrifying the world’s health agencies.

Between 1 August and 27 October, 113 people had died and 1,554 cases reported - out of which 985 were pneumonic plague, 230 bubonic plague and 339 unknown.

Listen, I know it sounds scary - it's plague - but you need to understand where it's happening to understand its potential impact to you.

For instance, germs. Bacteria. Causes this illness.

There is little to no sanitation in Africa. Small village? There will be a little "stream" flowing down the center of the road. This is the sewer. All waste disposal really. No running water. No soap.

A permanently hot, wet environment, rife for the proliferation of bacteria, combined with a population who practices little to no sanitation and has essentially no hygiene habits.

They call this the Third World for a reason.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74764651

not so much.
crowded cities yes, but hardly primitive.
more a factor is population density, wall to wall people.

the ritual of dancing with the dead is stirring up the bacteria. Same as in Nigerian ebola, all the family members wash the dead body, mixing bodily fluids with each other.

maybe these rituals were started to cull populations in the first place, brilliant thinking on our ancestors part.
 Quoting: MissCleo

During the Ebola outbreak, there were a couple of cases where the families took the deceased into a taxi to get them out of town because they did not want the body to be properly disposed of. So these taxis would have this dead passenger and take them to the edge of town where the families would bury them according to Muslim rituals.

The big problem is Ebola is never more virulent than in the recently deceased who died of Ebola. Do you think the taxi drivers sanitized their passenger seats after a body drop off? I don't think so.

I do know that the disposal of bodies according to Muslim rituals during the Ebola epidemic in West Africa severely prolonged the epidemic.

The other problem was the bodies would be hastily buried in shallow graves which made them tasty edibles for wild life, which would then be subsequently eaten by local tribes.

It's only killing 10% of the people being infected....

Wonder if it will mutate into a more deadly strain and kill say 70% or more of the people infected....

Usually a mutation of a bacteria/virus will make it less deadly....

It probably needs more Cowbell to get it going...

No way plague can ever go rampant again in the West, unles they allow it or are just plain incompetent.

The only reason that the mortality rate in 14th century was so high was that people were packed together in small cities/towns, with no sanitary facilities, no understanding of microbe transaction and anti-biotics were still centuries from being invented.

And as soon as they figured out that Plague does not favour hot enviroments, the people doing the actual corpse burning, who you'd expected to get sick had lower prevalence of the disease. Probably because the fire eliminated vectors, keeping lice and rats away.

Let that sink in and evaluate the threat again, consider that if you have european heritage there is a pretty fair chance that you carry a gene that helps you survive or not get sick at all. Consider that the standards of living, understanding of hygiene, understanding of medicine have all improved since then.

Unless this is some weird superstrain that somehow evolved to be resistant to antibiotics it has been nowhere near. you're probably fine.

Trust me, I'm not homeschooled.

So was the original one.

The icon of the grim reaper came about because of sightings of mysterious shadowy beings who sprayed some substance on to people, which caused them to die instantly as if taken down with a scythe.

Yes, the beings could have been spraying the fields that would infect the fleas...

The Fog would roll into towns and villages and kill like you mentioned above....

Bio-Weapon...
 Quoting: DuckNCover

If someone did do that then who was it and why did they do it? How did they know to do something like that given the crude technology back then and lack of knowledge about viruses and bacteria and science in general?
 Quoting: 2hot2handle

If you read about the accounts of what happened. It seems before a plague outbreak, beings would appear wearing dark robes and a sickle. They would be spreading smoke or fog in the fields which later entered towns and villages. Days later, the plague would break out in the village or town...

These beings were the first accounts of the grim reaper. They are the harbinger of death. Some say the first black plague was originally created by Extra Terrestrials....

We all know that the Muslimes catapulted dead bodies of plague victims into the Crusaders. People got infected and it got passed on to fleas that hoped onto rats. Rats boarded ships that took the plague to Europe...

That's because Ebola wasn't as contagious as the pneumonic Plague. You couldn't catch Ebola from someone coughing or sneezing like you can the pneumonic Plague. Plus once the person with Ebola was contagious they were generally in no fit state to go around spreading it to the general public like someone with the pneumonic Plague who starts off exhibiting flu like symptoms like coughing and can continue on spreading it till their symptoms get worse and they need to be hospitalized. People who caught Ebola were generally speaking the ones that were caregivers for the ones that got sick or lived with them and were exposed to the infected bodily fluids of the sick person. It is a lot harder to catch Ebola than it is the pneumonic Plague. You can catch the pneumonic Plague as easily as you can a cold or the flu which make the pneumonic Plague much more likely a candidate to become an pandemic given how easy it is to catch and spread with its 3 to 7 day incubation period. Plus Obama told the media to cool it with the reporting of Ebola cases so the media for the most part stopped reporting them though cases continued to happen in Western countries. If you can't contain Ebola than how do they expect to contain the much more contagious pneumonic Plague?
