Soldiers in the Holy League were also praying the rosary for victory. As the two navies approached each other, the wind was blowing strongly in the face of the Christians, a big disadvantage. The Christians unfurled a large banner of the Mother of God on their lead ship. The Ottoman lead ship unfurled a banner with the phrase "Allah is great" sewn into it thousands of times in Arabic. At the last minute, the wind suddenly shifted 180 degrees straight into the face of the Ottomans. This gave the Christians the speed required to outflank the Ottomans just in time. When the battle had been won, an improbable route for the Christians and a total loss for the Ottoman navy which would never fully recover, the Pope was in a meeting in Rome. He suddenly looked out the window with a look of ecstasy, tears of joy filling his eyes. He saw a vision in the sky of the Holy League victorious. He then said "This is not a time for business. Let us thank God for the great victory he has just given our Holy League." To this day October 7th, the day of the victory at Lepanto, is known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory and the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
