To them, ANYTHING is better than the presence of humans, even a nuclear meltdown. Quoting: CtrlAltDelete [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] like the man says, it seeped into the lower layers of soil, and eventually into the groundwater. so it's safe for surface dwellers but humans who dig wells or tap the groundwater for irrigation, will get radioactive water, radioactive crops. Sounds like a cop out from them. The plants look pretty well in shape. MeisterEder |

Those would be the safest. The rainwater still in the old cisterns would be good. But once new rainwater fills it back up, the radiation would be contaminating it. Rivers as Awatere source, same thing. Unless you have stored water in huge amounts, your safety is finite. That' ]s not to mention eating the plants, animals etc that are full of it. |

Quoting: Doom Monkey This. and the Australians were just waiting to die. Also the numbers for the radiation increase that OP gave were fudged. Immediately after Fukushima, the Canadian monitoring station that OP refers to was moved inland from the Pacific rain forest to Kamloops, an arid region. This move would have the effect of decreasing the measured fallout. The numbers have no connection to the pre-Fukushima measurements. Deplorable in a tin foil hat |

Freedom's just another word for lots of chores to do and there is no reason in these times for deep rural or feral living unless it is by a faith or conviction (or maybe because of a conviction I suppose) I look at some of these "imagine no shower for 3 weeks!" and its a guy.....my former manager is 30 and never been without power more than a couple hours. Its very strange that people have become complete strangers to where they live and what they are, thinking also that any natural thing is a great misfortune and artificial things are the "norm" - its all good until a venezueka happens and they are raging bevause they cannot even make their own biscuit or catch a baby "Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind" Covid, fake riots, communist organizers - keep your powder dry America. This was not the disease or the riots, those both are still on down the line. Garden garden grow spices and medical plants too. I pulled into state park, for a few seconds in middle of woods and within a few seconds some park person is at your window, with nasty attitude saying 'this is private property' don't even think of parking your car here. it's in fact, STATE park, and every park i see that's what it's like. they do not want you there unless you are paying money I read Eisenhower created interstate system with idea that if there was a nuclear war everyone would move out and form cities outside the radiation zones. that would mean MASSIVE eminent domain by government, or all these people would have to relinquish right to ownership of habitable lands. but in economic crisis no such liberty is provided, only criminalization, having no money is basically a death sentence. homeless til you go to prison and then it's worse than death, every video i see on youtube about prison is simply horrific. people get attacked non stop, the white guys get raped by black gangs. the poor are basically stomped to death for being poor and society is encouraged to feel no pity, even laugh at mock them derisively. |

So true. Great post. Decades ago people were much more self-sufficient and could take the Great Depression in stride, even over a period of several years. Now, with a population of over 350 million, income stratification worse than the Gilded Age, and government with eyes everywhere, you're most likely dead in another such situation without serious resources. A painful mass die-off is just inevitable one of these days. |

All of these areas were habitable within weeks or months of the accidents, in the case of Chernobyl, Radiation levels are dropping quite faster than first expected. The real fear from a global nuclear exchange is not the radiation, but the nuclear winter that will follow it. No one really knows how long the particulates in the air will take to clear out. Billions will perish from starvation and exposure. Krakatoa was just a single event, yet it affected global weather patterns for nearly two years. Last Edited by Flying Elvii on 08/05/2018 12:13 AM |

Quoting: Evil_Twin I don't expect this to change for at least a few more lifetimes. Studies of this talk about the Great Migration, people moving from the cold climes to the warmer tropical ones . This will bring wars and famine to those areas, within a year of a catastrophic event, as billions clamor for food and control. Those with the ability, skills, and most of all, the personal strength to survive in the higher colder latitudes will thrive, where others die off. |

We know that for most radiation detectors, mRem / hr is CPM / 1200. (According to Blackcat Systems). As mentioned earlier, 450 burning nuclear plants may generate 5,175 CPM. Hold on a sec. You haven't supported the central claim of your post, that "Fukushima burned, and the average radioactive counts rose over the US by 11.5 counts per minute (averaged with a Canadian station and one in the US Rockies)." All your math is based on this.... so is it true? I tried a quick search but didn't find any articles that said that. Can you provide a reference? And was that 11.5 counts on a Geiger counter or? And that level has remained constant or what that a peak? Haven't seen the 1959 On the Beach in a long, long time. Have to put that on the list to watch again. |
