My two biggest concerns at this point:

Rain.... there will be 15-22 INCHES of rain in Mountains areas that will funnel down in large volumes. A huge possibility of flooding and mudslides.

Storm Surge... with the main storm moving to the West of the islands the storm surge threat increases. The north east side will be pushing surge upward toward the islands. The most critical of this could be Pearl Harbor as it faces South and in a way that will act as a bowl being filled from the bottom.

Let's hope the GFS is the outlier and the ensembles don't start this trend.

Regarding the volcano, all the ground is very fracturated. I don't like to see a lot of rain going down all this faults... and the terrain is still very hot...

This will be devastating to the people there, they have already lost so much
tourism due to the active volcano and now this, very sad.

It seams to... just impressive!

Sometimes I really dislike the Saffir–Simpson scale. the public latch on so much to what number that they miss the information on the actual impacts. you could have a Cat 2 Storm with a LARGE wind field, Rain, Surge.... do FAR more damage than a Cat 5 with a tight eye, small field, dry bands.

They really need to start emphasizing the RAIN/FLOOD/SURGE threat from this storm which has the potential to be far more terrifying then the winds.
