A small percentage of greedy fucks keep it in place. Real estate values are totally fraudulent. I know I bought during the Bush bubble. No bailout for me, but the crooked banks got one. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77197203 United States 03/22/2019 09:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know some young people who had their kids young, and lived in one of their parents house, saving money. When their kids were in high school they finally had saved enough and bought a house. It wasn't easy, but they set a goal and did it. Historically, young families often did start out at a parents home until they had everything they needed to start on their own. Most had already begun the process of saving even before marriage, for instance, in the form of a trousseau for the wife (linens, quilts etc made slowly over time). The groom/husband often built the new home in his spare hours for several years before his young family could move out from the auspices of parents. |

As teens they moved into a home with no electricity or running water. He was a sharecropper. Everything was made from scratch and she had her babies at home. Now that was economical living. We have it so good now we have no idea. |

We bought a little 900 sq ft cottage that is over 100 yrs old on just under 2 acres for less than $80,000. We absolutely love it and the slower pace rural atmosphere! Added bonus -our county voted 83% Trump in 2016 almost everyone has gardens and are well armed! |

Ours was move in ready and had been kept up although we could use a new metal roof soon. I just looked real quick and found this fixer upper for sale "as is". [link to www.zillow.com (secure)] It obviously needs inspection to see what problems it may have besides cleaning up and cosmetics but 4 beds 2 full and 2 half baths on 2 acres 2500+ sq ft. for $89k Bet it could be bought for quite a bit less than asking price. Surrounding homes are quite a bit more expensive if you look at the map and satellite view. That area has several, actually 4 nice wineries nearby. [link to frogtown.com (secure)] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77197203 United States 02/15/2020 09:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is probably right. At least where I am, it appears that we are in a bit of a house buying frenzy, where there is hardly anything on the market. That drives prices up and there are frustration for buyers. Eventually there will be a corresponding dip. These dips can be frustrating for sellers. |

It is a matter of NOT buying of course, I have been stopped by kindly motorists offering me mittens when they see I use worn-out socks instead as warm as gloves, and softer matches my 35 year old jacket too. I could NOT give my stuff to Goodwill - too ratty - but cute, usable, and saves me lots of money. Liberalism is totalitarianism with a human face – Thomas Sowell |
