U.S. Creates Landlord Task Force to Strong Arm Property Owners into Renting to the Poor

I am going to ignore the racial overtones and comments on this thread just to make a few points.

First: I have known 2 people (maybe more) in my life on Section 8.
One is a mother of 4 who works her butt off and could not survive without it. Has wonderful kids who are smart and polite. And the mom dreams of starting her own business.

The second person I know is a woman who grew up in a horrible ghetto with a drug addicted mom who died of AIDS. She became a single mom herself. Worked like a dog, got a college degree and now is a successful homeowner with a dynamite job.

Second: The people who receive the help have to jump thru all types of hoops to get it. Fill out endless forms, meet deadlines, wait in lines. Constantly follow-up, etc.
The LANDLORD/SLUMLORD who actually GETS the money doesn't have to do CRAP! And they usually DON'T. They get the money straight from the government so if the tenant has issues with things they don't even return the calls half the time.
Additionally, they charge almost double the rent when the government is paying for it.

And lastly, the program needs to be changed to GIVE the money to the people who are using it and help them buy homes that they can actually afford, even if it is a trailer. That would be a better use of the money and I am sure that if the people on the receiving end had a stake in it they would do much better than the way things are done currently.

I still live in a Country that does not persecute Christians, for praying and hope never to see that day !

I am blessed to have family and friends.....

You are very fortunate that you can go HOME. Some people cannot. I am one of them. I do not depend on the government and do not get any assistance whatsoever.
Sometimes people DIE and then there is no one to take care of things. Do you ever see any other side of an issue, except your own racially biased opinion?
And by the way, when section 8 first came out, it was basically for WHITE people and helped them BUY homes. When it was offered to BLACKS the program CHANGED and then the landlords got the money and could only be used for RENT, the people who applied for it can't buy anything with it.

And you really need to change your moniker. You are anything BUT... just saying.

If you own private property and rent that private property, they are forcing you to take in Section 8 income. forcing you to be placed on a list of available housing for Section 8 candidates..

This is another case of government telling you what you can and can't do with your own property,business or body.


If you need to apply for Section 8 housing okay not a problem I'm not going to discriminate against you.. but fuck if the government has to get involved and tell me who I can and can't have on my own property

My mother lost EVERYTHING. Vehicle broke/ engine block cracked/ sold the remains of the van to a guy who kindly bought it for a chicken coop.

Took the Greyhound.

Did secretarial-legal transcriptions for a guy who let us stay in the garage of his thriftstore/warehouse. He was an actual activist.

Ended up in the projects. No furniture, nothing.

Baked bread with the commodity flour. Gave loaves to the neighbors; furniture trickled in.

Went to work for the housing authority collecting rent in the same project.

Bought a house you wouldn't accept as a shed. Paid it off, tore it down, rebuilt with cement block.

Social services are a real help in time of trouble.

But, with work, you can get back on your feet

Like I said earlier, this is not about the "poor", it is about "forced diversity"!

Unfortunately for the property owner, renting to the poor under subsidized voucher programs will almost always result in the home being damaged, a neighborhood increase in crime, and decrease in property values.

First, I didn't see the person you responded to making any racial statements in this thread, so how can you assume that their opinion is racially biased? Second, do you have any evidence that Section 8 was originally for white people as in something I can actually read? I just spent some time just now doing some research and see no such thing.

Also, from what I see section 8 has always been about rental housing and never about purchasing houses. Section 8 refers to the fact that it is Section 8 of the Housing Act of 1937.
