I was wondering when we were going to hear about the animal deaths. I knew it would be terrible. This is so very sad.

The number of hogs and poultry killed in Hurricane Florence flooding is already double the casualties from Matthew in 2016, and the losses are expected to mount this week as new information comes in from farmers as they gain access to their properties.

My heart really aches for the farmers affected by this
terrible storm and catastrophic flooding on-going this week.

But the real heart ache is for the animals--particularly
pigs mentioned here--due to the unbelievably awful way pigs
are kept in captivity on most larger industrial-level farms.
I saw a video of just one of these facilities and I wish
I had never viewed it.

Heartbreaking. I also wonder how many dogs, cats and birs that had to be left home had perished.

2 dogs died in the river last night and I know they were looking for a sanctuary for an owl. :(

Poor babies. I know there is more. [rip to all]

They also saved a horse named "Doll" from the floods.

As you mention the dogs and cats. On TWC just now was a dog rescue of what looked like big dog puppies that allegedly will be sent to Baltimore and some where else for adoption..

Yes, it isn't just pig, chickens and turkeys but dogs and cats too.

I wonder when we are going to hear anything about dead carcasses of wild animals. Just imagine how everything that lives on the ground or close to the ground also got drowned.

Utterly heartbreaking.

No animal should be forced to endure what hogs and chickens in these massive "enclosure" operations live through on a daily basis - and then to be trapped and drowned on top of it... unspeakable.

I still eat some meat, but only from farmers I actually know and who treat their animals decently and give them good lives. If they're being raised to feed us, they deserve to be treated well.

It's no wonder we treat each other so poorly when we have no respect for the creatures that feed us. We eat poison and spew poison.
More deplorable all the time.

Humans of Earth! I have come in peace. You need not fear me. I mean you no harm. However, it may be important to know that most of you will not survive the next 24 hours. With that many hogs and chickens being killed, the price of chicken, eggs and pork is going to go out of sight. Egg prices were just beginning to go down. Pork prices were depressed for a few months now I assume we will see them rise.

If you live in an unaffected area, contact your local shelters if you can help with donations or to adopt or foster a dog or cat. Our local adoption centers have taken dozens of animals from those areas and have collected besides money, crates, food and blankets.

Would you be a muslim? Do you not like pork meat? What about the price of your bacon now going thru the roof?...and I hope you don't plan on having ham or turkey for thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. This was a tragic waste of our food supply. Try not to think about the "filthy" and try to be mindful that your food supply just shrank by a lot.

Now here is something else to consider about that food supply. Just think of all the preppers that live in the Carolina's. That is a heavy "survivalist" area.

All their food stash is now gone. All their guns and ammo is ruined. Everything they had to survive off the grid or in a civil war situation is now just gone. I hope and pray they will have time to replenish before it is too late. Prayers for the people and their tragic loses.

Apparently Perdue got their livestock out of the flooding areas so why couldn't the pigs have been trailered out of the flooding areas before the floods. They had plenty of days warning. The governor gave special consideration for trucks/travel/roads. They just didn't do it. Maybe they didn't have the money to move the livestock or the trailers.
