I think that Jake meant that you can’t be locked inside a bedroom, seeing as they lock from the inside. So she was not locked inside, she was able to unlock it from the inside to get out of the room. He could have worded it better.

Yep. Alot of them are up for re-election and won't be able to spend the last few weeks on the campaign trail.

I do believe that is false. The Senate is a continuous body, unlike the House, whose rules expire every two years. We number Congresses by election to the House, whose members' terms expire every two years. Those rules have to be re-upped at the start of a new Congress. 2/3 of Senators are not up for re-election, so the Senate continues.
