A world-wide phenomenon that lasted from the 15th century well into the 19th century, the Little Ice Age brought frigid winter weather and powerful storms to many parts of the world. Move to areas with the lowest population density possible. Competition for game animals will be fierce during years when volcanic ash has caused the growing season to be non-existent. Farm the shortening growing seasons with hardy crops until the glacier is at your door. Then utilize the fresh soils pushed ahead of it and the springtime glacial melt water to your agricultural advantage. Volcanoes: [link to www.sciencedirect.com (secure)] Earthquakes(i.e. tsunamis): [link to principia-scientific.org (secure)] ---------- I believe a considerable percentage of the modern-day population will migrate south due to fear and desire for comfort. This could have the effect of severely overpopulating those fertile regions for generations. The overhunting in those areas could be so bad that when no more crops can be grown due to ash clouds or poor farming practices, they will become nomadic hunters and lose their capacity for sustainable farming many generations later.
