That way they will get a chance to adjust slowly to traffic and other humans. There is of course always the risk of them getting killed still by cars and stray dogs among other things but that risk one has to take if the cats really want to go outside. What is absolutely necessary however is to install some cat door so they can always get back into safety when required. |

"Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling. Just some people are better at hiding it than others." Everyone has to work out their own salvation. Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards. |

You can make it adjacent to a window and open the window for the cats to go out and in. Cats are not an apex predator - they get eaten too. They will last a lot longer and pick up less bugs if they're in a controlled outdoor environment. |

Yes, but if a cat has a high drive to go outside then maybe you are denying the cat a life worth living. Better to live 4 years joyfully than 20 in misery. The real problem would be if the cat gets seriously injured and you are too pussy to give her a quick and painless end if her injuries prevent her from enjoying the rest of her life. |

If you really want them outside, you can build a space for them, think chicken coop for kitties, or harness and leash on a guide wire type thing. But outside kitties free roaming, not a good idea if you luvs them. Last Edited by Tangy on 04/01/2019 02:43 PM |

I don't think my cats are miserable, but when the Sun is out, they just sit on the window sill in the sun. They need to feel the wind and sun as natural animals. A fence with chicken wire on top might be the answer, but I'm just renting this place. I feel like I have 2 prisoners. |

Guitarded One User ID: 68469318 United States 04/01/2019 02:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Is it ok to start letting my cats outside after being indoors for the first two years of their life? They are female and both spayed. Quiet nice neighborhood. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77155094 Any guidelines to make the transition to them being outside? They can still come inside, but they pine at the windows, they are Siamese, and I know they want to go outside, it seems cruel to keep animals inside their whole lives. We had 2 of our cats when we lived in Brooklyn and they never went outside, until we moved to rural Texas, they are in & out all day, it took them awhile to adjust, they were afraid to step on the grass at first, it was pretty funny to watch. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75758325 That's the only explanation we have. That or my whacko perve honey-bee hating neighbor disliked me enough to steal it from over the fence lol cats like to fight. i wouldn't let a domesticated cat out. raccoons and possums are also a real threat to cats, not to mention other bigger cats. they are obviously so much safer inside. unless they are born as outside cats, i wouldn't change their lifestyle. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77519892 Canada 04/01/2019 02:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Your cats have no idea how to behave outside and everybody knows cats can be a bit autistic. They can freeze like tards in front of a car. Train them. Take them outside in your arms. Show them around your lawn, your territory, and bring them back inside without letting them go on their own. Do that for a couple of weeks until they understand the basics. You can use a leash to do the last part of the training. Do they listen to you at all inside? Btw the 1st cat I did this with would come back home when I called it from 50ft away. For the second one, I went way faster and that cat never listened to me when he was outside. It just ran off while giving me the finger as soon as the door was open. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77312427 United States 04/01/2019 02:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have 2 cats both have been spayed/neutered one male one female. They have both been indoor cats all their lives. The female will not step foot outside but the male will go out and socialize with the strays that I also feed. He will go to the door and ask to go out. I let him go if it is nice outside and I am free to watch him. I will let him out and sit in the car and watch him for 15 minutes or so, when I get out of the car and tell him its time to go in he will run to the door and wait on me. I would never leave him out alone for any long period of time because he would not know how to survive like the strays do. The male is also a very social cat, he never met anyone he did not like. the female is just the opposite. She will not allow anyone but myself or my wife to touch her. We raised her from newborn bottle feeding for several weeks. She thinks we are her parents. She sleeps between us most nights and always snuggles up if I am laying down watching TV in the bedroom if my wife is watching something I do not like in the living room. |
