User ID: 77174443 United States 04/07/2019 09:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | IN MAY, an elderly man was admitted to the Brooklyn, New York City branch of Mount Sinai Hospital for abdominal surgery. A blood test revealed that he was infected with a newly discovered germ as deadly as it was mysterious. Doctors swiftly isolated him in the intensive care unit. Quoting: Aborted Soul The germ, a fungus called Candida auris, preys on people with weakened immune systems, and it is quietly spreading across the globe. Over the past five years, it has hit a neonatal unit in Venezuela, swept through a hospital in Spain, forced a prestigious British medical centre to shut down its intensive care unit, and taken root in India, Pakistan and South Africa. Recently, C. auris reached New York, New Jersey and Illinois in the United States, leading the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to add it to a list of germs deemed “urgent threats.” The man at Mount Sinai died after 90 days in the hospital, but C. auris did not. Tests showed it was everywhere in his room, so invasive that the hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it. “Everything was positive – the walls, the bed, the doors, the curtains, the phones, the sink, the whiteboard, the poles, the pump,” said Dr. Scott Lorin, the hospital’s president. “The mattress, the bed rails, the canister holes, the window shades, the ceiling, everything in the room was positive.” [link to www.nst.com.my (secure)] :Whaatt: |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76666437 Absolutely nothing mysterious about this story. People on this website must be just out of kindergarten. Candida albicans (white) being pervasive is old news. Candida auris I'd have to do some looking and it also seems like they hint at this one being more durable outside a host or something. Since the incident up north east and east south where some contaminated stuff had fungi with bacteria attached, we have wondered how long until its weaponized. But have to go do some looking myself. I had a person wonder about it this morning (lol!) but they are all good. Some people wonder what the differences are that could be weaponized? It's not big, it's huge and will be as important as MRSA. Maybe already is. In a nutshell, candida is showing a strain with 90% of cases being drug-resistant. It was identified a decade ago, and is world-wide already. No use getting excited about it. It's here. All the more reason to strengthen up. Good diet, good sleep, good habits, stay toned up. |

Just like bacterias and antibiotics. It is very scary. I was reading about this yesterday. Very concerning nothing kills it and it stays on all sorts of equipment. Covers about everything in a room. Scary for the people that work in these hospitals. And of course since hospitals are more concerned about making money and not wanting to drive away patients they have said nothing. |

Actually kinda strange how it does? Like it has a hard shell moisture barrier and carries a food supply or whatever it takes to still be viable on every surface there is in there?
