Anonymous Coward User ID: 77099820 United States 07/01/2019 04:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I have a mid 2000 sedan. It only has roughly 50k miles on it and I've had no issues with it at all. Quoting: JimmyBones I drove it up to the top of a scenic mountain from 2k feet to 5k feet with no issues. I parked and hiked for about 40 minutes and came back to the car and it started but then began sputtering and stopped running. I tried for about 30 minutes to get it started but it kept sputtering like it wasn't getting gas and wouldn't start. I stopped messing with it and started the process of finding a towing company and then went back and turned the key and feathered the gas and it FINALLY started. Weird. I drove back down the mountain and made it home where the elevation is 2k feet. I've had no issues with it at all after the initial one. I'd like to mention that the drive to the top of the mountain took me about 40 minutes and for 20 of them it was on a gravel road. The car has never been taken to that elevation. Does the elevation or the dirt on the gravel road have something to do with it. I just went back out and it started fine. Just makes me weary for other exploration later on. Seems like it had to have something to do with oxygen level or elevation or something but I'm a novice at this. Any help is appreciated. Plugged fuel filter your long duration drive to the top drained out the filter and the in tank pump is straining to replace it you dropped below minimum pressure so it's sputtering...lack of fuel pressure Fuel filters never ever get changed until this happens, even dealerships over look them plugged/ restricted fuel filter change it once a year from now on... |

Likely flooded it. Fuel filters are one of those things EVERYBODY says is the issue, and it almost never is. O2 sensor, possibly. End of day a car needs air, fuel, and spark to run. I'd bet your air filter is more likely the cause than the fuel filter. Take it in, and run an OBDII diagnostic see if any codes were tripped. |

It could be vapor lock, try some ethanol treatment for your gas or use high test next trip. And run a scan too. There's other treatments for vapor lock but it gets complicated. I had a full tank of gas and noticed when we were making our ascent the gas gauge showed just 3/4 of a tank that's how steep of a grade we were driving. When I came back down I had nearly a full tank showing. |

Then you can proceed from there. Quoting: BBQ BOY™ ^This^. When Mrs. Louis was in hospital for her emergency surgery in April I was out in the truck on Easter Sunday as she slept so I could have a few smokes, post here, 'had the radio on and fan running when suddenly about twelve error messages came up on the display and the vehicle would not start when I tried to, but it sure made weird noises. I prayed I had just run the battery down so I had hospital security come by with a jump box and it started. An Auto Zone was about a mile from the hospital so I went there as they were open on Easter and the folks there replaced the OEM battery with a deep cycle battery with start current capability instead; $200 but worth it so as to not have the same happen to Mrs. in the future. Auto Zone 'goes the extra mile' to make sure you have what you need including reading codes and replacing OEM parts with better ones if your use demands it. Watch the video, talks about how it can happen easily on an 80 degree day with the newer Ethanol fuel blends. It took some time for your car's engine to cool enough to stop the vapor lock |
