Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76871995 Many of the outages were caused by high winds that took down trees and power lines. This morning, DTE said it was working to fix more than 500 downed lines in southeast Michigan. It reported 72,000 customers without electricity in that area. Most of those are concentrated in Washtenaw and Livingston counties. [link to www.mlive.com (secure)] Similar large high-wind t-storms active now in Wisconsin. . Damn Didn’t think it was that bad When Autumn hits this year this crap will move much more south again. Much of Texas, especially North Texas, will get hit by ongoing severe weather... Somehow I am not eager for that to happen again... Understood Eh, when you've experienced a tornado in real life even an F0 tornado even from two or three miles away that's still a life changer. Heck, I didn't realize even an F0 tornado could cause a fair amount of damages miles away from it. It's been about a month since the F0 tornado in my town and most of the city damages are cleaned and repaired by now. However, the private side of things from what I've been hearing time to time my suspicions were confirmed correct. Insurance companies are doing everything they can to screw everyone over so they don't have to pay a penny while raking in everyone's money all the while. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, 'You are mad; you are not like us." -- St. Anthony The Great Social Credit Loser here. |

Seems to me with each passing season the majority of the storms progressively get worse bit by bit with some storms being wild leaps and bounds in intensity. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 76871995 United States 07/20/2019 04:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Heat waves can be defined in many ways. For consistency across the country, this indicator defines a heat wave as a period of two or more consecutive days where the daily minimum apparent temperature (actual temperature adjusted for humidity) in a particular city exceeds the 85th percentile of historical July and August temperatures (1981–2010) for that city. This approach is useful for several reasons: The most serious health impacts of a heat wave are often associated with high temperatures at night, which is when the daily minimum usually occurs. If the air temperature stays too warm at night, the body faces extra strain as the heart pumps harder to try to regulate body temperature. Adjusting for humidity is important because when humidity is high, water does not evaporate as easily, so it is harder for the human body to cool off by sweating. That is why health warnings about extreme heat are often based on the “heat index,” which combines temperature and humidity. By using the 85th percentile for each individual city, this indicator defines “unusual” in terms of local conditions. A specific temperature like 95°F might be considered unusually hot in one city but perfectly normal in another city. Plus, people in relatively warm regions (such as the Southwest) may be better acclimated and adapted to hot weather. [link to www.globalchange.gov (secure)] . |

I suppose this is "proof" of something. What it is proof of is how poorly hte electrical infrastructure is maintained in parts of Michigan. We get Tornados, thunderstorms and temps in the 90's and sometimes even 100's. Nothing new here, stop trying to make something from nothing. In another week or two, temps will drop to the 80's and at night be 65, all normal here in Michigan. ^^this^^ It’s summer you know... |

The heart needs to rest at night and it can't do that if the 'apparent or feels-like' temperature is too high. As the link I provided above under heat waves shows the 'heat waves' were analyzed from 1961 to 2017 utilizing airport temperature stations as they are long-term reliable indicators. They defined 'heat waves' as 2 consecutive days or more with the minimum 'apparent temperature above the 85 percentile average of July/August '61 to '17 data. The trend is more frequent and longer lasting 'waves'. The map in the article shows which areas of the country have affected the most. |

We get Tornados, thunderstorms and temps in the 90's and sometimes even 100's. Nothing new here, stop trying to make something from nothing. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota definitely get some very shitty weather. The highest heat indexes ever recorded have happened in those states. Then of course you got the way below subzero winter's with hundreds of inches of snow. Tornadoes. Yuck. No thanks. Why anyone would want to live there is beyond me. That is true. The highest heat indexes ever recorded happened not in the Desert Southwest- as temperatures often feel considerably cooler than the actual temperature due to really low humidity- and surprisingly not even in Florida, the Gulf Coast or Deep South- which is known for its hot humid weather. It's the Upper Midwest states like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, and northern Illinois where the highest heat indexes occur. New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Boston and Philadelphia have had some pretty nasty heat indexes too. Look up 1995 heatwave. The highest recorded heat index was in Wisconsin at nearly 150 degrees. In fact almost every place in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, northern Illinois, including Chicago, and Michigan had heat indexes between 120-150. Over 700 died in Chicago alone. Parts of the Northeast like Philadelphia, New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Boston saw heat indexes over 129 and even over 130. The Upper Midwest and Northeast also had heatwaves with some pretty nasty heat indexes in 1999, 2001, and 2011. 2012 while just as hot or hotter actual temperature wise, didn't feel as bad due to significantly lower humidity. |
