It's a bit wild seeing this game go for almost $10K, but I guess sealed boxed copies of it are indeed a bit more rare than I'd imagine... I've seen Castlevania go for about $1K, but this is absurd! He inventoried his collection at about 3 million dollars in 1980. Came back from collage and asked his mom 'ah, where's my baseball cards". She says, oh they were cluttering up our spare room, I threw them out. True story bro. |

It's kind of a shame that the Kid Icarus 'franchise' didn't really pan out like intended...but this probably contributes quite a bit to its "sealed-box rarity." I don't think I ever got the "best" ending in the game; more like the second best... Though I was the first kid at my school to finish Kid Icarus, Metroid, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! when they all first came out. :) ...might be a Kid Icarus night, tonight! There are certainly challenging games out now, but there were some insanely hard games in our times of "antique" gaming... You also have to include the fact that we only had Nintendo Power magazines, word-of-mouth, and calls to Nintendo's help line for anything; we were all on our own! I think games have kind of cheapened over the years in terms of difficulty, typically just to cater to the largest majority (for monetary reasons, obviously.) Quoting: AkashicRecord® You know those threads where we ask what we would tell our 10 year-old selves if we could somehow reach back in time? Well... I'd probably have to go with: "buy two copies of every game and don't open one of them ...ever!" A 1987 NES Game Just Sold For $9,000 After Sitting In An Attic For 30 Years "Scott Amos of Reno, Nevada recently found an old, 1987 NES game in his attic after looking through his childhood possessions. The game in question was Kid Icarus, still in the bag it came in with the receipt also correct and present. The receipt tells us that it was bought in December 1988 for $38.45 (just over $80 today according to an online inflation calculator), but has been completely forgotten about ever since." [link to www.nintendolife.com] I can't say I'd pay that kind of dough for any game, but these stories are always interesting. There was a somewhat recent story regarding a rare Atari 2600 game (Air Raid) that went for almost $40,000!!! It too, was discovered boxed up in storage for almost 40 years... Kid Icarus for the NES was a rather mass-produced cartridge, whereas the Atari 2600 title mentioned above only has a few copies in existence, and it was never commercially released... Cool story and it's even better finding gems like this when you're know what to look for and have an eye for it. |

Quoting: Pleb Definitely. A lot of the (good) used NES carts can still command $30-50, depending. The Air Raid story was very cool because it wasn't a released game. A guy used to sell games at his store and he had 1 of maybe 10 demo cartridges that the game company was pitching to shop owners. They never came back to claim the copy and went out of business, so it went into this guy's collection in storage. Decades later it turns out that collectors are paying over $30K for a copy!
