Bernie Rico died in 1999.
The guitars made today are absolute garbage, but back in the 70’s they were the best on the market. They weren’t all pointy, but most were.
It sounds like you don’t feel comfortable taking tools to your guitar, take it to a shop and they can fix it up in minutes.
Likely just lint in the switch if it’s crackly.
