It really wouldn't take much to sink nearly all of Florida. Between Hurricanes, sinkholes and humid ass weather I don't see why anyone would want to reside in Florida, especially retire there. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75386015 Um - here's one reason - Florida house more shoreline than any other state, save only Alaska. And nearly all that shoreline is in moderate to warm waters, making Florida a premiere state for vacationers from around the world. People that know much about geology, Florida's aquifers, sink holes, elevations, flood plains, topography, the location of lakes' and rivers' outfalls once the rainfall norms have been breached, soil types, etc., are very rarely surprised by any of these flooding issues; therefore, if you are going to buy a home or some land in Florida, you better get a handle on all of these items. Acceptable, It also has the highest insurance claims annually and highest home insurance premiums. Premiere shoreline and beautiful warm water aside, its a money pit and accident waiting to happen. What could possibly go wrong? Quoting: Turd Ferguson, Jr. Metro Houston knows the answer. This answer is ignorant of the facts. Disney is required to maintain the same amount of wetland as when they bought all the property. It is legally it’s own county. It gets Federal tax $$ for doing so, for every piece of land it develops, it must turn the same amount back into wetlands, It’s crazy, I know. But Disneyworld makes hundreds of millions a year from Federal tax money. |

Quoting: Goofy for God [link to weather.com (secure)] They are 82 ft above sea level this is something to watch It's not clear what's causing the water to rise, or how to fix it. DeHart and others have a few theories, including runoff from nearby roadways and the construction of a new subdivision on land that was filled in and raised higher. Florida is beaches and wetlands and is so ridiculously overdeveloped. This kind of stuff is inevitable. That first photo of the house and yard is so typically alligator habitat. Long grasses, water all over. Yuck. How many sink holes has Florida had? Look at Florida's geology and geography. No way in hell I'd live in those places. Eventually, all of that water will make new sink holes and more "lakes" (i.e., swamps). In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined: With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world, And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor. Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator. “Looking for consciousness in the brain is like looking in the radio for the announcer.” – Nasseim Haramein, Director of Research for the Resonance Project |
