She said farmers had culled so many pigs that it would take a while for supplies to build up again. "If people feel that food inflation is going up, it may spur policy actions," she added, although it wasn't clear just how Beijing can find a quick and easy substitute to domestic farms. An apparent trade truce between China and the US reached last Friday could be what China needs to stabilize its pork supplies. China has said it could import as much as 400,000 tons of pork as domestic supplies shrink. The country is likely to boost purchases of pork from the US in the coming weeks. You dont understand. This is the Trump card. Supply them what they need, what they want .........at the "market" price. FArmers do well. The US does well. China cannot afford to impose tariffs on pork. That would be very hard to explain to "the people".

Reports are that Chinese US pork purchases in September went at an ALL TIME HIGH for a month after months of restricted purchasing. Although starting late in the year with their heavy purchasing it now appears that the Chinese will purchase MORE pork from the US this year than last year, and in fact maybe more than in any previous year ... which is probably going to stress the US domestic supply, though unlike beef pork production can be ramped up quickly. Farmers who sell crops to the Chinese are hurting, but those who sell pork look like they will doing A-OK. A true bifurcated ag export market to China
