I hear female foxes (vixens) give those screams at night out where I live. They can vocalize with extreme volume & sounds like a human crying out in agony.

Oh yeah. I hear them too in my area. Scared the hell out of me. Sounded like a woman being branded with a hot iron.

At least when these foxes are finished screaming at each other they automatically resume being utterly adorable. The same can't be said for those who go REEEEE into the night though.

Guy I know said he called the cops once because there was crazy loud screaming coming from an abandoned house. Cops came. Guns drawn. Turned out to be two foxes getting it on.

Had a momma fox with three pups living in the woods next to my house several years ago, you would see the pups at the edge of the woods at dusk sometimes. One night around 2 am they all decided to run through my yard all screaming in unison along the way right under my open bedroom window. Sounded like high pitched demons, never heard anything like it. Scared me right out of a deep sleep and at the time had no idea what the sound was or what made it. Neighbors and I figured it out the next morning, everyone was talking about it because the sound was so loud.

I have never heard it and I live in the NW woods. It would alarm me, for sure!

Funny thing about foxes, if you've ever been around them for an extended period of time, you'd swear they're like 99% canine and 1% feline.

Basically, foxes are more cat than Liz Warren is Native American.
