Many Millions of pigs in China are being destroyed

because of a virus..

China needs to purchase 52 Million tons of swine

!!!

With that much pressure on swine then that leaves less

swine in the USA...

and therefore higher prices for both...swine and beef.

Not an expert...

but some companies produce and build less

in the 4th quarter-Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec.

so there might be less demand for

recycled materials...

Just a guess.

Ranchers killed off all their cattle a few years ago because they couldn't afford to feed them. There was then and about to be again, a big hay shortage. so there won't be any more cheap beef, probably ever

These proposed metal tariffs will directly affect scrap metal prices and market value for all major commodities in scrap (steel, aluminum, copper). Like mentioned earlier, if US processors are seeking more scrap for processing than scrap prices could go up. But simultaneously, if international tariffs are created for metals like electronics or steel are applied, then the prices could go down too because it’s more costly to move the metals internationally.

If you look at the price of oil since 2014 we have seen a dramatic decline in the prices and those declines have trickled over into the metals market. The prices have dropped to multi year lows and because of that we are in a position to see lower metal prices for the foreseeable future.

Other reasons that prices have fallen is a massive uncertainty of growth overseas. There is not a large belief that the markets will recover and other economies will continue to grow at high rates

We also have seen a very low industrial manufacturing increase of any type in the US…because of that you will see less of demand locally for metals that once had such a large value for resale. So the domestic scrap prices are affected by what is going on our own soil.

Corn and fuel prices. Beef requires a lot of both, and when the govt. pays massive subsidies and requires oil companies to have ethanol in fuel, why would you sell corn for cattle feed at low rates? Diesel fuel has dropped, but for a while it was well over $4 a gallon, and you know that once they raise prices by a big amount, they never, ever go back to what they originally were or lower. Lots of times, I see sirloin steak on sale cheaper than ground beef at the store, no idea how that works. I stopped eating grocery store meat a long time ago. It's unimaginably filthy and full of horrifying shit.

Recycling- just that- when it was just people getting "scrap", demand exceeded supply and prices were high. Now that so much is recycled, the pipeline is glutted with material. So much so that some recycling places are having to landfill stuff people think they're saving the planet with. Steel scrap used to go overseas much more, that market is much reduced now. The US doesn't have as much capability as it used to to produce steel, but we still produce 70% or so of our own, plus exports. People forget that our economy still dwarfs China's, they're catching up fast, but POTUS has put them on notice now, they're hanging on a razor's edge to maintain growth at all costs, because they know that a real upset to their economy means a new revolution.

I have wondered the same thing. You are right OP, ground beef has over tripled in price the last few years but the price of other beef has not gone up. I buy steak or roast and make my own ground beef if I need it now. It is a lot cheaper and better quality that way. And the quality of store bought ground beef has gone down as the price went up.

The green religion tells us all that they have no intention of letting anyone eat meat.
First they will price us out of eating beef and scare monger people out of eating beef, then those who still eat meat will see them kill the remaining animals through starvation, supposed plagues etc - this from people who convinced us that they love animals

Due to Trump's tariffs on the importation of Chinese goods, the Chinese government shut down the importation of scrap, of all kinds, from the USA.

Reduced market for scrap means much lower prices.
