I'll have my mortgage paid in 2 years!
After I pay it off, I'll have to come up with $9k per year in property taxes. So really, my "rent" to stay in my paid off home will only be $750/month!

Winning!

and yet you will not own a damn thing.

funny how that works with debt being treated as money.

you cannot own property you do not pay for and you have not paid a damn thing, it is still just property held by the Federal Reserve Bank/US Government INC.

you can use it, but it is not your property.

That's what pisses me off. You work hard all your life to pay off your home, and yet you still have pay property taxes forever..

You can work hard, pay it off and still loose it if you don't pay your property taxes....

Grrrrrr.....

Property Tax is just the start, most cities you are not allowed to go off grid and disconnect from Power Water Gas etc so you have to pay for these as well. Also you have to keep the property maintained to code. As for growing fruits vegetables keeping chickens, goat etc HELL NO. Anyway you look at it you're up for over $1000 a month to continue to live in your own house.

In Canada property taxes where I live are cheaper than that, for a 300k home, About 2000-4000 a year at max. And not based on home value, more so the land value or how much property there is. They raise it modestly. Thankfully.

We paid off our home and its about $1700/ year for property taxes.

Got lucky and bought way back in 1980.

Then paid our bills ahead of schedule.

I have a great wife.

Sorry, some of us want actual ownership and aren't the kind to pretend that this guy's house couldn't be lost at any time. He doesn't hold the real title, he is a 'resident' that is expected to look after the states property.
