Do you think she has a future at NatGeo? Some nice shots there OP. What camera is she using? And are the pics full resolution? I ask because some of them seem noisy and or not very sharp. ------------------------------------- Truth is like the sun. Quoting: Truth Ranger Not to mention overexposed...I know because I shoot flowers and over-saturated color is the hardest thing to shoot and every camera brand has their own strengths and weaknesses. I'd expect a pro underwater cameras to start at $5,000. and the market is oversaturated too. That is, there have been years of pros working in the field producing perfect shots, many now in stock photo portfolios. New work is about new species which means working directly with the scientists where they work. |

Do you think she has a future at NatGeo? Could be better but why don't you have her download a program like infranview, which is free and have her learn how to color 'correct' or enhance the photos? How do I put this to you? If you look at an unretouched photo of a woman who is nude, even with the correct lighting, camera filters, etc, the photo still has to be edited to make it look good, landscapes are no different. Almost all photos you look at in magazines are digitally enhanced. If she wants to move forward after that, then go get her a wecom. Don't cheapskate if she is really into this. You cannot just take pictures and think that you are going to become a photographer, doesn't work like that. Depending on how much money you want to put into her hobby, you can get the larger wecom with reasonable software for roughly $6-700. If you want to get professional level software figure on about $12-1400. You might want to get her a basic level outfit and then buy the professional grade software once she learns how to use paint and some of the other software. Even if you have the money, it is not always the smartest idea to go out and buy top of the line software without her knowing how to use it. It would just frustrate her. Work up to it. I would stay away from the Microsoft clone of the wecom. There is also a chinese knockoff of the wecom, but no one in the industry likes the pen, they cannot get the pen to work like the wecom pen works. As they say, you get what you pay for. I am not promoting wecom but anyone who is seriously into photography is also into photo editing. Great time to buy a wecom as you find many Christmas deals for the various models and software bundling. I am warning you, when it comes to photo editing, do not go cheap, she will not be happy. Yes, you can go cheap with photo editing slates, but you will not have photo rotation on the screen and so many other features which you, meaning she, would want to have. Without this type of photo editing software, then just leave taking underwater pictures as a hobby. |

New work is about new species which means working directly with the scientists where they work. My friend is an underwater videographer and I'm a pro cameraman. I helped him decide what camera to get and now he's absolutely killing it. He decided on the Lumix LX100 (mk1) as it has a big sensor, super fast Leica glass, shoots 4K video and even has a zoom. They're about £400. The underwater housing only costs about £200 and works a treat. His first underwater housing many years ago cost something like £12000. Happy days - this rig he says is streets ahead of anything he's ever used in the past |
