You can't look at just the raw number when talking about ups and downs of the market. Right now, $400 is around 1.5%, which is not a big deal. No one should care until you start getting to the 10% mark.

There will be lots of 4Q selloffs/profit taking this month so expect big dip.

If that happens you will be on the street with everyone else looking for a roach or some kind of bug to eat ! The people with Gold and Silver will trade what they have for that Bug as well ! Problem is no one will want it ! They want the BUG !

You don't trade do you? You don't 'cash in' when it's 400 points down!

Bitcion, oil AND the Dow must SIMLUTANEOUSLY drop for a true "carsh by garsh" otherwise it is just gas moving from bubble to bubble.

They cash out losses at year end to offset profits for the year. They DON'T cash out profits at year end unless they have hit a target.

Cashing out profits at year end is a good way to pay extra taxes.

Exactly - Capital Gains tax is 25%, some people get their entire annual income from selling stocks in December. This has been a great year for the market!

Investors for Trump 2020!!!

Given the days start of ~27500:
down 800+ points over the day would be cause for concern.
down 1500+ points over 2 days is troubling.
down 2250+ points over a week without any gains is likely to be signaling something unpleasant in the economy.
down 4500+ points over a 4 week period would be a very strong indicator of incoming recession, especially if the jobs numbers drop. Currently, I'm giving the economy about 8 months more before the next recession starts. I don't expect it to be a long one or very deep, about 6 months before a short (3-6 months) upturn followed by a double tap (1-3 down, 1-3 up, 1-3 down) recession; after that, I am very uncertain.

At the time of this writing, the DJIA is at -375, several profit reports and forecasts came out for several of the major players, I expect what we are seeing today is profit-takings. Near the closing bell, we can expect some of the bottom feeders to move in and pick up for the next round of profit-taking.

Are they "carshing" the dow cause Trump said "No China deal" until after the election? Cause before this, the Dems were telling China to WAIT to see if Trump wasn't defeated.

Now everyone knows it's a foregone conclusion Trump WILL WIN in Nov.
