(OP) User ID: 69637911 United States 12/04/2019 10:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Believe it or not GLP is still browsable from a text based console under Linux using W3M which is a text based browser that can be run from the console command line. Of course youtube and other javascript links will not work but the main forums are available. This is not run from a GUI. I did also load W3M-Img to display images from GLP using the frame buffer. Quoting: Achduke7 It is almost like running a BBS in the late 80s and ealy 90s. Achduke |

You would also need dialup or a cell modem/mifi in rural areas. Last Edited by Achduke7 on 12/04/2019 10:49 AM Achduke |

Quoting: tada 44862034 https ://lynx.invisible-island.net/ I have not used lynx in a long time but w3m will render frames and images in the graphical console frame buffer. It can also use the arrow keys to move around the page and then enter to follow a link or provide input in a form. Achduke |

That is how I started too. Sears was selling them for $99 with the speech synthesizer and cassette recorder. Loved Parsec. I was 14. MoS Never argue with an idiot. I run it at home and on all my servers. When I need Windows I Remote Desktop into a Windows Server at work. I am currently setting up 3 laptops to form a network bridge around our building setup in a ring. If one side goes down the route will still function in the other direction. Also old laptops make good routers/servers with a built-in UPS/Battery. ;) Achduke |

Had mail calls from South America even. Was a great time to be into computers. I finally found some one who started an earlier version of MS than me. 1.1 ? After so many blue screens, gave up and migrated to Linux. Started out having to compile your own version which could take hours. Linus Rocks. |

I do not remember if at the time it was MS-DOS or PC-DOS since they were the same but branded by IBM instead. I also worked with CPM from high school so DOS was familiar. I ran my own OPUS BBS back in the day complete with a fidonet gateway and an UUNET hook up to the internet. Most people think the internet started with the Web Browser. Nothing like poring through pages of Archie search listings and downloading files using ftp. Last Edited by Achduke7 on 12/04/2019 01:04 PM Achduke |

Im going to try it lol I used to run a BBS in 1991 called The Morgue , I was the Sysop Mr. Death . I had windows 2.1 bootleged , some sierra games and other pirated software in my down load section . I remember when I had gotten a second line and implemented p2p chat how cool it was I saw two of my users talking to each other for the first time . I was one of the first BBSes in my area with chat and multiple lines. |
