Of course, Earth will be hit again. There are THOUSANDS of asteroids with orbits that can intersect ours.

The Earth has evidence of massive impacts millions of years ago.

This is not the main reason for asteroid mining; it is a side benefit.

Imagine if the crowns of Europe had any idea of the wealth of the Aztecs, Incas, et al, before Columbus. They WOULD have figured out how to get here.

We can SEE the wealth of the asteroids and Luna.

Regardless of how well we conserve the resources of Earth, and we should, they are limited.

The resources of the Solar System are essentially UNLIMITED.

The primary hurdle is financial. We already have rocket tech sufficient to explore and mine the asteroids and Luna.
