They make examples out of folks every once and a while to keep honest people honest. Truth is, probably 90% of Food Stamp benefits could be considered fraud in some way...between able body people getting them and selling them for cash/drugs.

No kidding,i always get a big laugh when i see a crazy guy steal something from a store,and they act like he is the biggest thief in the world...And we shame that person...

gold prospector ,Builder,electrician,plumber,About anything you can think of,put on his own roof on his 2500 sf house mostly all by himself just few years ago,all metal roof..

Seriously, what kind of person, who's in serious need, does this sort of thing? I remember when I had SNAP for a couple of years. It was only $25 a month, but I enjoyed every banana and apple that money purchased. These people obviously didn't need the benefit.

I got behind a guy in line at the grocery store and watched him buy pre-cooked beef brisket, a submarine sandwich, fried clams and shrimp, 2 steaks and a bunch of snacks chips with his EBT. NO idea why he couldn't work, plenty of jobs around here.

Don't you think it's a shame that people who are given a card with money on it for food don't use it for that purpose? I know that in Texas the SNAP card could only be used for food, but I suppose there were shady businesses that offered a cash payout for the card. Kind of hard to do, though, since it was like a pre-paid debit card that had an amount posted to it each month.

I think your idea is about the only way to ensure that people get actual food instead of junk or do something illegal with the money. I just think it's a shame :(

Go back to US govt purchased, US farmer grown basic food distributions. Rice, flour, sugar, powdered eggs, powdered milk, butter, cheese, baking powder, vegetable oil, canned meats, etc.

Back in the 1950's and 1960's food stamps were for THAT FOOD AND ONLY THAT FOOD.

What concerns me more is with any crime typically what you hear about is merely a fraction of the total crime happening in that scenario, so how many other people are abusing the system?

I'm just so sick and tired of seeing all the ways my tax dollars are wasted, stolen, appropriated poorly, etc.

The lastest thing in my county is a new $20 wheel tax for 2020. You would assume to help fix the roads because they are behind on repairs and paying back their loans. A couple of days later they tell us on social media that those funds will be used to help cover the rising cost of meth issues in the county. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????!!!
