Sorry to say, but it'll never hold zero being that its mounted on the cover like that. Been there done it. You need one of the side mounts that attatch to the stock and sit over the top of the cover. Then you can use a cheap scope if need be. It all starts with a solid proper mount. A $1000 scope mounted on the cover wouldnt make any difference.

On another note, nice looking sks!

Not a good way to mount a scope on an sks for multiple reasons , plus the triggers leave a lot to desire for even using a scope. If you could upgrade the iron sights reliably I would do that.
Soviet bloc weapons are notoriously poor for solid scope mounts without being ridiculously high over the bore.

Good luck none the less , happy hunting!

Be better off using the iron sights. Pretty accurate out to 200 yards.

As others have said, the SKS is "minute of man" out to about 150 yards. The receiver cover isn't stable and, after two or three rounds down range, is going to seriously impact the zero you worked to hard to establish. A "cowboy" mount, next to impossible to find, is really the only solid mount out there unless you try to jury rig something and end up butchering the stock on your rifle to mount it.

Regardless, best of luck with your hunting. Keep us posted.

I would sell the SKS to buy something more modern before I would alter it. Want to leave it original as possible.

When dad used to bring home a deer, mom would always ask for the heart...I don't eat organs, but mom rarely got one worth cooking because it always come out shredded...dad's 80 and still a damn good shot...never saw him use a scope, but I don't have his eyes...

This shows why nobody needs an AR-15, SKS, AK -- similar semi-automatics

they have no true sporting purpose

Dude/dudette seriously ?

The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting, our rights do not revolve around “sporting purposes “ it is about our ability to rise up and crush a totalitarian government

The AR-15 is specifically designed for mounting a scope and drilling prairie dogs at 500 yards is child’s play

Anyways you should be throughly beaten for your ignorance
