I think they are full of shit on the canning supplies being short due to high demand. While most suburbanites will hit the local Cosco and stock up. I find it extremely hard that millions have turned their back yards into gardens. There's no shortage of books on canning, because they have all been canning for years. There's no shortage of pressure canners because everyone always had a pressure canner on the shelf.

Crunch said he can’t find a pressure canner.

I think it is the $200k and over that never had to buy supplies before.

And the canning lids have been an issue since April. Folks that can drive around have more luck. But it is hit and miss online....even target has a hard time keeping them in stock.

Canning supplies is one of the preps I purchased back in March and I'm glad I did. There are no lids to be found it seems in my area and my friends can't get their normal canning done like they do every year.

But we also don’t know how many bought kindle versions of those books.... these folks might have solar and not be worried about electronics.

I bought a big supply of jars and lids back in Feb,March. I just looked and Amazon had plenty of canners listed, most are the cheap knock offs.New canners probably don't know to either get the All American Canner or if you can't afford it the Presto canner,but there is no shortage of them. This is a supply side issue not a demand issue like is what is being told. I don't think they can keep up with normal demand. Unless preppers are stockpiling the shit out of them when they see them.

I have a well and a fireplace and wouldn’t recommend them as worth moving for at all.

Fireplaces take out more heat than they’ll give you and well water is as iffy as city water. For $600 you can get a good s/s distiller.

It’s the metal parts that are probably the worst of the problem. I don’t bother with any jars under a quart and it’s hard to shop them from home because of high shipping costs. I’ve been lucky to find some from grocery home delivery but only the originals and only once. The wide mouth beginner jars are always out.

Nah. It’s not a classist thing. They are in demand by everyone.

Having one canner was ok in 2019. Most of us would like a second or third one.

I do not see sufficient cumulative data concerning long term effects of Covid. Due to the lack of large scale reliant data, the conclusion is this novel virus has no more calculated risk as influenza. Or any other life threatening decision that accompanies your first breathe every day and spans the remaining 24 hours.

Every move you make in life involves risk. Time to get back to life, with one eye on China’s next move.

I have Tattler reusable lids and gaskets in my preps and am very careful to keep the jar’s metal bands dry so they don’t decay.

I remember that.... those sound amazing. I never even knew there were reusable ones.

I normally make my stuff to give away as gifts..... so the concept never crossed my mind.

While many want normalcy.... risk management has to be applied better to decisions. I like this article on it. Too many have optimism in places that it really doesn’t belong in.

And hope is different but should not factor into rational decision making.

I was always a little to nervous about using reusable lids. From what I've read they are more finicky so to speak than a regular one time lid for a good seal.
