People with learning disabilities have been given do not resuscitate orders during the second wave of the pandemic, in spite of widespread condemnation of the practice last year and an urgent investigation by the care watchdog. DNACPRs are usually made for people who are too frail to benefit from CPR, but Mencap said some seem to have been issued for people simply because they had a learning disability.

Small news items from my little corner of the world:

We're under a winter storm warning, 5" to 8" expected from Sunday night into Tuesday morning. Should make life interesting for a couple of days.

A friend of mine on IMPD who tested positive for Covid-19 late last year is a long-hauler. He still cannot work out like he used to without complete exhaustion, and he says he still gets a metallic taste and smell every now and again. He knows another officer who tested positive with mild symptoms, but is now having problems with an enlarged heart, so he's starting to worry about long-term health effects himself.

In other weird news, there has been an epidemic of fatalities from people driving the wrong way on Indianapolis interstates leading to high-speed head-on collisions of late. Four of them just in the past four weeks, and I know there were several towards the end of last year. This used to be a once-a-year type event, but recently has been happening with far too much regularity. Alcohol is almost always a factor, but why the sudden increase in incidents?

I developed a mild cough last night and the taste of the phlegm I'm coughing up has changed slightly, which is usually an early indication of a URI for me. Not so bad this morning, so it might be nothing. Raffette and I are remodeling our main bathroom so we have both been exposed to paint fumes and dust. It might be related to that instead. I'm not a hypochondriac by any stretch of the imagination, but I have been hyper-aware of any respiratory symptoms for the past year. It sucks wondering if any little coughing spell is going to be "the one." I'm going to boost my vitamin C and D today just to be on the safe side.

I've been reading Darth's experiences with ivermectin and I've attempted to do some independent research, but Google results are singularly unhelpful, since results range from "ivermectin has no impact on Covid-19 patients" to "ivermectin is a wonder drug that saved lives." I'm considering picking some up from our local TSC, but wanted to ask about how much to buy and dosage suggestions.

For a friend who requested a "safety update" via karma, here you go:

Two weeks ago, I escorted 3 employees out the door on Thursday and one on Friday, for various things, including one blowing a .036% BAC, another for refusing a drug test based on his physical appearance and symptoms, and a third for continuously using his phone while operating his forklift.

This past Friday we had an employee fall asleep in a standing position three times over the course of an hour and he was brought up to me for assessment. Pupils were fixed and constricted, resting pulse rate was 136, and behavior was agitated and borderline manic. Oral swab drug test was negative on 7 substances, but returned invalid results on 4 other substances, so I asked the employee to submit to a urine-based drug test. The urine sample tested negative across the board, but the urine came out at room temperature, thereby invalidating the results. So he was asked to submit to a professional, supervised drug screen at an occupational health center. This increased his agitation and he claimed that he would "test dirty and lose his job because he did cocaine on Sunday." When I reminded him he tested negative on his pre-employment drug screen on Monday, he changed the day of his cocaine use to Monday night. When I asked him why he would test positive with an OHC test when the urine sample he just gave me tested negative, he said the "hospital tests are so much more sensitive than what we use." He eventually declined the OHC test, and was terminated and escorted from the building.

I wonder what's going to happen *this* week...

I used the dosage setting "ring" to dispense the product. I go 150#.

He is really careful as three of his work mates, between 30 - 50, with no known co-morbidity died of covid last year. All three were deniers, main wage earners, with children. Very sad. He now chastises me when I do something I am not supposed to, covid safety wise.

Where I am it’s now -16F windchill. Tonight light snow and maybe -25 windchill. Then tomorrow into Tuesday up to 8” more snow.
