OK, a few thoughts on prepping, trolls, etc.

1. Interesting how some ACs seem to take a personal interest in each of The Regulars. They must be building dossiers.

2. Opsec. When I lived in a condo in Houston, my neighbors knew NOTHING of my preps. I had cameras, an alarm system, and some neighbors whom I could trust.

Nobody on GLP knows where I live. Only LJS would have any idea.

3. My preferred position on surviving any kind of disaster is cooperation and sharing with those I can trust.

I live in a very small town in Texas. Everybody knows everyone else. The few cops we have know every resident and their vehicles, so they often stop anybody they deem suspicious.

Lots of retired cops and military here.

I have mutual defense agreements with close neighbors. If there were any attempt at home invasion, the looters would find me behind them.

I do not advertise my prepping, but family and friends know that they are WELCOME here in case of emergency. I INVITED them.

Here in the country, I have fences, dogs, cameras, sensors, and an alarm system with weapons close at hand. Radios to communicate with neighbors in case cell phones fail.

If hungry people show up, I will help them. If healthy adults, I may ask for payment in goods or services, e.g., I need the weeds out of garden.

Back in April a desperate lady appeared in my driveway with four hungry kids. I gave her about 50 lbs. of staple foods.

I was expecting The Queen to get mad when I told her. The Queen, "Well, why didn't you give her a dozen eggs too? We have plenty".

4. There are other philosophies on prepping and disasters, e.g., one member has a hidden bunker like my wife's father had in the Old Country.

5. YES, I prepped for Ebola. YES, I prep for hurricanes and tornadoes which are common here. When I lived in CA, I prepped for earthquakes and brush fires.

We prep for the same reason we have life insurance. Someday it may save us or our loved ones.

This I guarantee: We WILL see disasters in our lives. Take a look at the profligate spending, economic depression, toxic political rhetoric, and rising crime.

So, we prep. And we pray that the CCP Virus will NOT be the disaster some predicted. I have been pleasantly surprised to be WRONG on the fatality rate so far.

However, we are not out of the woods by a long shot.

In case anyone missed it, you should all prepare.

We KNOW that something bad is coming.

Those of us who were/are exposed regularly seem to have the strongest reactions to the shot, especially the 2nd one. Employers need to recognize this and stagger doses so all of the staff won't be off at once.

We had an .3 inches of freezing rain with sleet today that was just a preview of what is to come tonight and tomorrow. I had to go to work and by the time I left the roads were slippery slush. There are hundreds of nurses and docs staying the night at our hospital or a hotel close by so there will be people to run the hospital tomorrow. This is a shitshow of epic proportions! Record low high today of 29. Now predicted to a low of 9, NINE, degrees here tomorrow night. We haven't been above freezing since Friday. Predicting major power outages lasting for days or weeks due to ice accumulation of 0.5 inches.

Hubby has to work tomorrow so he went ahead and stayed the night at the station. They may only true fire calls tonight because the ambulance companies may not even run if it gets as bad as they say. No need for the FD to wreck a million dollar truck if the ambulances aren't going to be there for transport. Scary times here.

Good thing I have my covid preps and generator! My friends and coworkers who thought I was crazy buying all of that are now driving in shitty weather to empty shelves. Sucks to be them!

word of advice to those ppl down south- go start your cars even if u don't go anywhere. let the battery charge up.otherwise when it does warm up that battery may not have enuf left to start it.especially with the modern computer sensors.

i do hope ya's used antifreeze and not just water. add a blanket to the car preps as well. stuff breaks a lot with this much temp drop. u don't want to b stranded without blankets there. unlike up north those down south are not dressed right for near 0 degrees.

Insurance companies and medical centers, providers, etc have agreements on how much can be charged for certain things. If you look on your EOB (explanation of benefits) you'll see a column for cost and one for allowable charges. The allowable charges are the agreed upon amount that the insurance company will pay. It's all a fucking racket, but we have to have insurance or pay out of the ass.

Now, the cost of the procedure is what the non-insured person is charged so they end up paying more than the insured due to the agreement between provider and insurance compnay.

All this to say, insurance companies do not ever lose money. Ever. They are the biggest pyramid scheme on Earth.

Also - don’t turn on your windshield wipers until all the ice there has melted or been scraped off or you’ll short out their motor.

Make sure to turn off the wipers when you turn off your car so they don’t go on when you get in the next time.

Some people pull their windshield wipers up and off the windshield overnight so they won’t get frozen to the glass.

Not much to report today. Grateful for the CA weather as I read about what many of you are facing. I've never lived in a cold climate --- that would be a major learning curve for me, and it's one I am glad I don't need to take on at the moment.

You IVM doses look good -- I use the weight marker on the tube of paste, and round down to the nearest marker (which is close to my actual weight) since I'm dosing twice a week.
