Coronavirus: Hong Kong government to extend school closures, and keep civil servants at home for another week, sources say

The government is expected to extend the temporary closure of schools beyond March 2, and extend work-from-home arrangements for civil servants in an effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

A source told the Post that Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung Yun-hung would announce the move to keep kindergarten, primary and secondary schools closed on Thursday morning.

Two sources familiar with the government’s position said the administration was also likely to keep civil servants at home for at least another week, meaning most of the government’s 176,000 staff would be out of the office until February 23, at the earliest.

Similar advice is likely to be adopted in the private sector, where many workers have already been told to stay at home.
