Why is the medical profession icon a snake wrapped around a pole?

Could explain their closing down their cities, you know to protect their populations when the real deadly strain is released. They obviously know something that the western nations don't and their response should have people who watch these things concerned, not telling everybody that things are okay, to carry on as usual.

Are we sure all those videos of people falling over are real, or are they being put out to help explain their unprecedented response? If real, why are western nations not following suit? If fake, then defense ministers for western nations should be concerned about potential for economic/cyber/biological attacks incoming.

This whole thing seems to have an economic warfare component to it, which might explain why western nations are not following suit, but if China is shutting this many large cities it is going to ripple into the global economy to some extent, which may be the whole point.

(1) Launch a mildly effective biological agent, over-blow the threat as well as your own response to provide plausible deniability for taking actions that will harm your opponent economically, while sacrificing your own economy temporarily, knowing that all economies are about to change, and that you are making the switch to a wartime economy.

(2) Use it as an excuse to close your systems off from the internet, then launch the largest cyber-attack on your opponent to further the economic destruction to your enemy.

(3) Release a deadly variant of the disease once it is accepted that there is a world emergency/crisis, while giving most of your own people the immunity to that strain, crippling your enemies command and control war fighting capabilities before launching a first strike.

At first I thought no big deal but the videos are extremely alarming. Disney closing a business that will lose millions by doing so is concerning. If this is a true pandemic we will know it soon.

On the news last night in our area they had a news segment on asking people not to come to the hospital because you can infect others. Gave advice on what to do but to stay home. The segment was being done with a very large children’s hospital that serves a very large area.

If this gets to pandemic level then heed the advice stay in your home, hydrate don’t spread it to others. The hospital is not going to be able to do much to save you when there is no cure. You will just be infecting others.

For now learn what you can to avoid it getting sick. Keep your immune system strong, wash hands, don’t touch your face, stay out of crowds.

As a nurse I pray this is not a pandemic in the making.

China is moving military into Wuhan, constructing a "hospital" in 6 days.
This is a reaction to a biological disaster, probably manmade. Doesn't seem like an offensive move, more defensive within their own population.
To sacrifice their own population goes against Chinese Tactical Warfare where their population is an asset.

The common flu kills 0.01 percent that get sick, the China virus is killing about 2 percent or more, that equals the 1920 pandemic..

By my calculations, in China, the mortality is hovering at 5% and appears to be climbing. Not sure what you're talking about with the flu. It's mortality is extremely low these days.

The 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic was a 20% mortality rate and it struck mostly the young. Just like with Ebola, I don't fear slow movers with 80% mortality, but a fast-moving, respiratory virus with a 10% mortality rate would catastrophic. Imagine 35 million Americans dying in the span of 16-30 weeks. We'd be overrun.

Don't panic yet, but know where your tomato plants are!

I wish I could do that but I have two businesses in healthcare. Medical transportation and care of elderly. I have already been thinking about the impact. I once was a nursing superior on during a local emergency and I know what will happen - staff want to leave to be with their own families and that was 25 years ago, in today’s world it will be far worse for abandonment.

This may not be the one but one day a pandemic will hit us again. Hoping I am retired when it happens and up in the mountains away from others.

I really hope you are correct, but this does have a different feel to it. The shutting down of cities is the one thing that has me wondering....

Maybe just diverting attention to something much larger?
