Disney closing a business that will lose millions by doing so is concerning. If this is a true pandemic we will know it soon. On the news last night in our area they had a news segment on asking people not to come to the hospital because you can infect others. Gave advice on what to do but to stay home. The segment was being done with a very large children’s hospital that serves a very large area. If this gets to pandemic level then heed the advice stay in your home, hydrate don’t spread it to others. The hospital is not going to be able to do much to save you when there is no cure. You will just be infecting others. For now learn what you can to avoid it getting sick. Keep your immune system strong, wash hands, don’t touch your face, stay out of crowds. As a nurse I pray this is not a pandemic in the making. |

In 2010 swine flu spread to 61M people in US, that is 20% of people.. this is Just US, which had .01% kill rate, and killed 12,000 people. God forbid if 60MM people are effected in US with this, 2 % mortality rate will be 1.2MM people.. that is pretty damn significant. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 43702541 Could explain their closing down their cities, you know to protect their populations when the real deadly strain is released. They obviously know something that the western nations don't and their response should have people who watch these things concerned, not telling everybody that things are okay, to carry on as usual. Are we sure all those videos of people falling over are real, or are they being put out to help explain their unprecedented response? If real, why are western nations not following suit? If fake, then defense ministers for western nations should be concerned about potential for economic/cyber/biological attacks incoming. This whole thing seems to have an economic warfare component to it, which might explain why western nations are not following suit, but if China is shutting this many large cities it is going to ripple into the global economy to some extent, which may be the whole point. (1) Launch a mildly effective biological agent, over-blow the threat as well as your own response to provide plausible deniability for taking actions that will harm your opponent economically, while sacrificing your own economy temporarily, knowing that all economies are about to change, and that you are making the switch to a wartime economy. (2) Use it as an excuse to close your systems off from the internet, then launch the largest cyber-attack on your opponent to further the economic destruction to your enemy. (3) Release a deadly variant of the disease once it is accepted that there is a world emergency/crisis, while giving most of your own people the immunity to that strain, crippling your enemies command and control war fighting capabilities before launching a first strike. China operating in the open in this way gives credence to this being legit. but... isn't it odd that this inflammatory subject captures the news headlines dead bullseye of the impeachment hearings? such worldwide news on both sides. hmmmm.... no idea, but we have lived through this scaremongering so many times in just the last decade... SARS, MERS, EBOLA, et al. but China to allow the world to know 30M under quarantine... if not legit, that's a shit ton of multi gov'ts coordinating in the background. and that seems highly unlikely / undoable. suffice to say, after all the speculation and rumors, either we will know as were about to die, or we'll know when we're back here next month talking about the Oroville Dam... They won't call it Pneumonic Plague, which it looks like, all the symptoms, because that would cause severe panic. So they named it "Corona" a friendly beer name (bet that company is cringing now), and pretend like the military can contain the outbreak. This is action-movie shit! Like 911. World War Z scenes. I suggest watching Waterworld, 28 Days Later, and talking it over with the family about realtime scenarios. The common flu kills 0.01 percent that get sick, the China virus is killing about 2 percent or more, that equals the 1920 pandemic.. Your thread is a major FAIL... By my calculations, in China, the mortality is hovering at 5% and appears to be climbing. Not sure what you're talking about with the flu. It's mortality is extremely low these days. The 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic was a 20% mortality rate and it struck mostly the young. Just like with Ebola, I don't fear slow movers with 80% mortality, but a fast-moving, respiratory virus with a 10% mortality rate would catastrophic. Imagine 35 million Americans dying in the span of 16-30 weeks. We'd be overrun. Don't panic yet, but know where your tomato plants are! |

It wouldn't be the first time China killed off millions of their own people, if that is what's happening, but I would tend to think that the initial release effecting their population currently is the mildest of engineered strains, giving them room to make several tactical moves ahead before their opponents catch on to what is transpiring and respond accordingly, before they release the deadlier strain in their enemies economic centers and largest population centers, after they are already protected because of actions that they took first, while responding to the milder strain. |

This the main point. Normal flu does kill and I see it every week at work - mainly in the old and infirm. But a 2-3% death rate with this kind of spread rate is something else! The next pandemic flu was just waiting to happen and this might be it. If it comes to nothing that is a good thing but China shutting down 14 cities is a real big! The fact that medical staff are now becoming infected is no bueno. At first yeah I thought this was all hype, but when's the last time you saw a city getting quarantined due to the flu. This exactly. Yes, exactly indeed. I have seen many doom fails on here, but this seems different. In all my years, never seen them quarantine a whole city for the flu. |
