Well, it shouldn't have won the Best Picture award because there used to be or still is a category for Best Foreign film. Which is where it should have landed. Not best feature film because it is dubbed.

Foreign Film Category maybe died because we're all of us now one race, one religion, one language, one culture (in somebody's eyes)? Glad I didn't watch, but haven't in over a decade.

Was actually an interesting movie....just watched it this weekend. Had absolutely nothing to do with a virus or anything.

No, it's saying the underclasses are a Parasite on the host wealthy class.

No matter how bad off the one family is/was, there was an underclass even lower depicted as living literally underground in someone's basement. The family that was poor worked their way into a rich family systematically lying and posing to worm into the positions as "the help" for a rich family. In doing so, they cost the jobs and livlihood of the underclass that was already working for the rich family.

The housekeeper that they told lies about and cost her her job in order to put the mother of the basement dwellers into that position pretending they were not related.

The housekeeper was vindictive about it but also literally had to keep watch because she had hidden her own husband away to live in the wine cellar/basement of the rich family and now she wasn't there to sneak him food or whatever. It was literally basement dweller versus basement dweller duking it out for the "privilege" of serving the wealthy "host".
They are the Parasites.
