I once owned an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet.
The model had a faulty battery (it was a factory fault on the entire model) so NVIDIA sent out free new NVIDIA SHIELDs to all owners, when you started your new one they bricked the old faulty one by remote...

All these things are tracked and controlled and can probably all be shut down by remote unless you have jailbroken your device. People should perhaps look into Jailbreaking their Samsungs?

Wonder if they pinged everyones phone to make a geographical map of locations and population density or users in areas of the world.

I also got a 'Security Update' yesterday from Samsung that I installed last night BEFORE I got the '1' message at 12:50am EST this morning in CT. Did anyone else install the update before they got the message?

I found an ESL emergency service locator has to dig to find it. Turned that off. In case of emergency turns everything on. I had all other location settings off.

Samsung can access your phones and files any time anywhere, even those without find my samsung app.. "1" was just a test

I received no alert however the 'find my mobile app' was updated to a new version last night on my phone.

I generally get at least one OS security update each month as well as daily updates to my purchased anti virus / anti malware application, which incidentally should always be the first thing you install on any phone.
