Nextdoor app/website freaks me out
Nextdoor is like Facebook, but it's super tied in to local government/leo.

The people there are super trollbait gossiphound Karen types and hypocrite whooners (the whining demographic who hates da boom boom music and can't see their own ruddy reflection from all the salty glossy glare coming off their hammy aesthetic)

And most importantly, I never registered myself. I got an invite, was told to enter some code mailed to me to register an account, never did, and ended up with an account linked to my real name and residential address anyway. Then it gave me the option to register many of my neighbors, who's names and addresses they presented to me.

Is Nextdoor the new "Operation Lifelog" since Facebook has widely turned into commercial content? Who runs the damn site? It literally looks like local governments operate it..

Yeah, I use it. Like facebook, they prob already have your name and address before you sign up.

Nextdoor is good for lost pet situations.
Or getting a reference for a contractor,
or maybe selling something.

But the key is to NEVER get into debate threads or type anything sensitive on there. Just keep it very dry, keep opinions to yourself, etc, and you should be no more at risk than when we used to all have our names and addresses in the phone book.

But I agree, it is still creepy. And it's not run by local gov, it's a dot com corp.

I am very conservative. Nextdoor is the only social media I belong to. In fact, I am the lead. When people get out of hand I remove it or if it is outside my area I ask the other leads to remove the post.
There are about 10 to 1 liberal posts when it comes to discussing things such as Roundup and Politics.
I am only on here to fight the fight. I feel we must push back and have a presence everywhere the left opens their mouths inappropriately.

I didn't do it either.

But, from what I understand, it's just a more intimate Facebook, with all the drama, gosdip and bullying, only mow people know exactly where to find you...

My wife uses it to track any crimes that are happening nearby.
I would never say anything political on it.

In a moment of weakness I registered, although I didn't put down anybody else's names or addresses for invites.

Now I periodically get group emails along the lines of "I wish the occupants of the house at the corner of This Street and That Avenue would mow their lawn."

"hopefully"
~ you censor your mouth / language when in the presence of children

in days gone by
~ you censored your mouth / language when in the presence of ladies

propriety, chastity, etc. are conservative values

I read many of the posts.
Usually very little politics on there, in my local area.
Most of the "I wish some one would..." posts, get told to mind their own business, get a life, etc.
You might call it gossip(I wouldn't), but not much bullying or drama.

Good place to get info on lost pets, neighborhood crime, the county and police post some community info on there.
Like how to prep for a disaster, missing persons, local disease info, (right now it is from humane society on distemper, had been Nile Virus stuff).

You can find a few deals in the for sale section.

So it seems it varies, from community to community.

Thanks for all the info. We got the invite also, but did nothing.

Our kid uses it, lots of packages ripped off around Christmas.
And missing pets. New people have no idea about the hungry coyotes, but they will learn quickly.

I think I’ll pass on joining.

Re: Nextdoor app/website freaks me out
I've lurked a bit and there is definitely local gossip and drama in my area, and even moreso there is bullying with some tattletales acting like annoying hall monitors trying to police everyone.

Things like calling out a Uber driver who they didn't like in an attempt to villainize them to a homeless woman they were singling out in a mean way or trying to identify a neighbor's kids driving too fast.

Creepy site for sure when it's used this way by busybody neighbors on a power trip who have nothing better to do!
