Any thoughts on why most schools are closing for two weeks but our state is closing for a month?

Also...anyone looking for a complete lock down/quarantine and if so how soon do you think it will happen?

I work for a major garbage company and I don’t know what we will do. We were just briefed in Fri about precautions that needed to be taken but I don’t see them shutting down bc garbage has to be picked up.

The school time line is probably fluid and will change.

As far as quarantine, who knows right now. Dr. Fauci said this morning on MSNBC that he suggests a two week quarantine and then this afternoon on Fox news he changed his tune and said that we are not like Europe and handling it better. The administration must have shut down that quarantine response.

I would pay attention to local and national press conferences and stay prepared.

We heard yesterday that we will be self quarantined as a state for two weeks. We'd heard it would start very soon.

My initial thought was we're shutting down schools for longer because Edward's wanted to be extra and stand out. Now I feel like maybe because he'd heard the CDC was going to recommend 8 weeks out for kids and he's moving us toward that with the month.

If/when we shut down, there will be some grocery stores and pharmacies open. Not sure otherwise.

I'm hearing they're going to start limiting the amount of gas you can purchase here. (Louisiana) ...probably something that will be done in most states.

Also hearing state border closings and store closings in 48 hours or so. I think this may be mainstream by now (maybe not the timeline)

Point is, if you have no gas, and nothing is open anyway, they can basically shut it down without having to have the NG in every town/city (which they couldn't anyway). The NG will be put in major cities (especially ones that are known to go wild weasel like New Orleans during a crisis).

My guess is, if you're outside the major cities you'll be able to run down the street to Granny's house or something. But no public gatherings of any sort.

If you're in New Orleans, i would get out while i can...you won't be leaving and it will probably be basically martial law there.

My husband and I were discussing this same thing over the weekend. Hurricane Katrina was a good picture of how bad it could get in New Orleans. A several week quarantine in the City would be like post Katrina on steroids.

My husband and I live outside of Orleans Parish in a pretty safe area so we feel safer than most, however, we are advising all of our friends that live in the City of New Orleans to get out if they can or be prepared to live in a dangerous situation.

Today someone I know got a text saying that the NG was going to shut Interstates down in the middle of the night. I’m not sure if he knew this person or not.. He showed me the text and it was not a screen shot but it could’ve been forwarded. I think he may have be on the fence as to if he believed it and he didn’t laugh it off. He runs a company and is ex military so he’s smart and level headed.

They are in the process of getting things worked out to care for our company employees. Trying to get me access to work from home. My boss told me to pack up anything I may need in regards to files etc just in case something popped off tonight.

Other places that are locking down are giving a notice or warning and deadline. Is that how it’s done? Seems like people would just scramble and leave. I also wonder if they are leaving it up to the individual states to lockdown or maybe even suggesting it? Seems like if it’s done on a state by state case it’s not as scary and might not be as intimidating as the Feds implementing it.

Everyone is screaming about New Orleans having so many cases, well yeah..

Mardi Gras for two weeks straight, it ran from Monday, January 6, through Tuesday, February 25, 2020 and took place in many cities and Parishes Statewide.

Couple this with the fact that we have an International Airport, an International Port of New Orleans where cargo is shipped in 24/7-365.. We have a major Train and Bus Terminal and we have several different Cruise Ship Lines that board in New Orleans everyday.

So................. yeah.. we have the most exposure.

BTW did ya'll see the notice on the Library?

DUE TO THE NATIONAL STATE OF EMERGENCY AND OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION, TANGIPAHOA PARISH LIBRARY ARE CLOSING ALL BRANCHES BEGINNING MONDAY MARCH 16, 2020. TENTATIVE PLANS ARE TO REOPEN ALL BRANCHES ON MONDAY MARCH 30, 2020.

Hancock County woman with coronavirus went on Disney Cruise from NOLA to Mexico

The woman underwent testing in Louisiana on Thursday and was initially listed as a case there from out of state, the church said.

“She had been feeling sick throughout the week, but not with the type of symptoms you read about,” Cuevas said Monday. “A lot of people are not realizing it’s confirmed in Hancock County because they are not seeing it on (the Mississippi State Department of Health’s) list.”

The patient is a 74-year-old woman who had been on a Disney Wonder cruise ship to Mexico during Mardi Gras. The ship left its port in New Orleans on Feb. 27 and returned March 2.

COVID-19
This is long but READ IT, DO IT AND PASS IT ON
feedback for now on Corona virus:
The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can one know if he/she is infected? By the time they have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% Fibrosis and it's too late.

Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning. Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it proves there is no Fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicates no infection. In critical time, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air.

Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases:

Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least.

Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus.

If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT -
CORONAVIRUS 1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold

2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.

3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.

4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.

5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.

6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.

7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.

8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.

9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.

10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water!

THE SYMPTOMS 1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days

2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.

3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.

4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

Please send and share this with family and friends. Take care everyone and may the world recover from this Coronavirus soon

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Public Schools are planning a new program to deliver school meals to students using a charter school organization’s bus fleet.

The school district announced Thursday that it has partnered with FirstLine Schools, a charter management organization, to use that charter group’s bus fleet to deliver meals under the Citywide Feeding Program during the forced shutdown of schools due to coronavirus.
