Anonymous Coward User ID: 50009798 United Kingdom 03/16/2020 10:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Usually I’m very anti-data mining, but today I had an extremely weird meeting at work. I work in maintenance for a big company in the food and beverage industry, multi billion dollar company. I’m in SW Washington and we were told today that as of now, if we have kids and have to stay home to care for them since schools are closed we can take any amount of time we want, it’s unpaid. This alone surprised me since the majority of workers here are food packers which means they pose a high risk to contamination. Quoting: Rorschach Watchmen We were then told that if we live in or near or have visited an CDC designated “hot zone/high risk area” we are to self quarantine at our discretion! What!?! The feeling I got is they are about to close down and maybe at first run a few lines that are high yields/sales, but we can’t make product fast enough. Our warehouse is at 40 percent as of today, during January we have high focus for the Super Bowl and summer months and are always at over 90 percent stock capacity. Getting weird out there, Out of work end of march. Nothing to do with the virus, my project finished. The problem is that markets are at best very quiet, no new work anywhere... |

We are working from home provisionally today, though I assume we'll be getting word of full quarantine by the end of the day. With many companies going into a standstill, we may very well see our company shut down. With no one implementing the solution, we'll be at a dead stop. Better get those YouTube channels going, folks. |

I can’t imagine this will go one much longer since we are a food industry. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |

A lot of bad times ahead for some, hope it passes quick but I think we are just starting the ride. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78342846 United States 03/16/2020 12:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Read the fine print of the law being signed. It says tax credits for small businesses and they can apply for a loan. The loan process takes months even years to get . Then they have to wait until next years tax season tho get the credits for the sick time and they will need an accountant to do it. Just today an article came out and said exempt salaried employees it doesn't count. That's why Trump wanted to suspend payroll taxes because he knows it would be instant and direct to everyone, instead of this crap the Democrats came up with! |

Or it might just be a load of shit. 9/11 happened. Bush Jr came on Tv and announced the package for Americans. within less then two weeks, every American received their cut check. Trump will cut the bullshit sign executive order and get it in action without the redtape BS. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77755184 United States 03/16/2020 01:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work in the service industry in New Orleans. Bar staying open. I have an autoimmune disorder. Tried to communicate this to boss & was completely ignored. Only told my shifts were covered. Nothing has been said about virus, they won't acknowledge it. On top of that, I am feeling sick. I'm fortunate to not be working on st Patrick's day, but angry anyone would expose themselves to this. Numbers climbed to 114cases in Louisiana in 7 days, 2 deaths 53 & 58 years old,had pre existing health problems.First infected case came exactly 2 weeks after Fat Tuesday/Mardi gras. I dont know when or how i can bartend again. Many great customers, but others careless, don't wash hands, don't respect personal space. Like giant kids spreading virus before symptoms present. Hope we get the national guard here& city shuts down asap. |

Social unrest pending/ all schools closed for a month in Louisiana. The restaurant/bar/service industry in places with high cases, will be on hold indefinitely. We make our money when it's busy.even if open, we're screwed. Hopefully economy/people can handle a pause on many industries for safety until we know more of how to manage this virus. Katrina shut everything down for 2months higher ground& years for the 80% of city that flooded. I think we can handle no bars open for 2 meager weeks. |
