Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76735776 It’s fucking garbage. They used a virus to push a 2T stimulus corporate bailout and citizen handout through. Enjoy your Federal Reserve leaders republican and Democratic sheep. Exactly. Watch in amazement over these next two weeks how quickly this "deadly virus" will suddenly "disappear." |

WASHINGTON — The White House and Senate leaders reached an agreement early Wednesday morning on a massive $2 trillion coronavirus spending bill aimed at alleviating the economic impact of the outbreak. “At last we have a deal," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday. "In effect, this is a war time investment." Although the full text of the bill is not yet known, lawmakers indicated on Tuesday that the Republican’s initial proposal for direct cash payments would be included. Under the plan, people making up to $75,000 a year are expected to receive checks of $1,200. Couples making $150,000 will receive $2,400 with an additional $500 per child. The new agreement removed the phase-in provision that excluded lower-income Americans from receiving the full benefit... [link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)] What about the individuals who might have made 100k last year, but are no longer employed this year...do they get screwed in this? Pretty much I made 130k in 2018 and 80k last year. I looked at the formula which means that I'll have to use the 130k and the monthly benefit will be 5% minus the amount over 75k which is around 2700 which means I won't make the 2000 a month but hey I'll prolly get a dollar a month for sure. What is a few more trillion, in truth another 20 trillion would probably be a good idea, build the us infrastructure back up with cheap money. Then watch the dollar go to zero taking all the debt and the FED with it. Go for broke, already broke so nothing to lose. mondali2 |

[link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)] Umm I was listening live when they ended the session. The leadership may have made side deals with each other, but only about 10% of the senate is even in DC at the moment. Most members went home over last weekend. How can they vote to pass something when they are not even in the capitol, unless they change rules they can not. Lmfao! You must be new to all of this. The feral reserve act that passed in 1913 was passed on December 23 when all but 10 members were present in DC. When other members returned from their Christmas break they were appalled at what had transpired. This the fed was created. This is the oldest trick in Washington. Get educated. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75571547 United States 03/25/2020 03:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't think this is going to help the average American all that much. I understand they need to keep companies from going out of business in order for there to even be someone cutting paychecks and keeping the workers paid. But maybe they should have split it into two bills one to take care of the companies and something more beneficial to average people. They need to get cash into the hands of all of the people caught out by this that are hungry etc. It seems like with the qualifications and stuff that a lot of people are going to fall into edge cases and be left out in the cold. Hopefully that number of people is small enough that this package is enough to stave off riots/looting/burglaries/etc. A one time $1200 check to a subset of people that fall within their window...idk. I guess we'll see how it works out but I think a month from now things are still going to be pretty dire. |

User ID: 77763753 United States 03/25/2020 03:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's 600 dollars a week plus 1/4 the states regular benefit but unemployment sucks ass. You have to call three employers a week to keep unemployment and if You get offered a job cleaning toilets for 1200 a month You have to take it. I work offshore and the gulf is shut down so if I call offshore companies they would gladly hire Me in preparation for the work to start meaning I'll be in the exact same fucking place with a job with no hours. You can send in your resume electronically. Many large companies receives thousands of resumes for jobs they have posted and don't have time to look very hard at yours, particularly if you don't exactly fit the job description. So no harm no foul. There will be even more applicants now that the economy is tanked. |

Might want to hurry up and do it electronically. |

Not true. If the job offer is not 80% of the wages you used to make before, you can refuse it,and continue to get unemployment. Besides, there's no way they can find out you were made an offer,if you don't tell them. You don't have to call three employers a week, you can apply on line for three jobs a week, and when they call you for the interview, you give them a printout of your activity. It worked for me. Plus add 13 extra weeks of unemployment. I will be getting $1164 a week. In most cases you will get your entire salary tho I will not. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75552149 United States 03/25/2020 04:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Basically yeah “ “We have expanded the universe of people who qualify for UI (people who are furloughed, gig workers, freelancers … ), and we have increased the benefit by $600 per week for four months (that’s in addition to whatever their state would give them as a base salary for being on unemployment). Also expanded UI by 13 weeks. What this means is that a lot of low-wage workers will end up getting more money through unemployment than they previously were earning on the job. Perhaps not coincidentally, $600 a week is what you would earn working 40 hours a week at $15 per hour (pretax). And again that’s in addition to normal unemployment insurance. For a lot of restaurant and retail workers who’ve been furloughed or laid off as a result of the crisis, it’s a pretty excellent deal. On the flip side, some higher earners who lost their jobs probably won’t have their full salaries replaced, as Schumer seemed to suggest.”” |
