Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78498775 It promotes self-destructive behavior. Care to expand on that? I can think of several greater dangers, honestly. Many public schools are great. But it's not the government's job to educate our children, and the best teachers do not live your kids like you do. ...Loving souls, starving trolls... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75506976 United States 04/10/2020 11:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Please stop liberals from overstepping. Quoting: SoulWinner After the virus dust settles, I predict the teachers union will push to limit or revoke your right to homeschool. They are struggling to finish the school year and realizing they are replaceable...and realizing students and families see the same. (This is not against teachers, school counselors, pricipals, etc. The union is the problem.) I further predict a surge in homeschooling over the next few years. The union will see that as a major threat. Speak up, please, and let your neighbors, friends, and family know how much you appreciate your right--and respect their right--to choose. Wow, how true is this... Wouldn't have supported this statement in the past, but after homeschooling my daughter for three weeks I realized we are wasting our tax money! The teachers kept telling my daughter just can't do the Common Core Math and (shame on me) I believed them. When the schools closed down and I took over teaching my daughter...I was shocked. Not only is she picking it up - she is damn good at MATH! I am furious at them (and myself for believing them) Also, every day the Math teacher makes teaching videos and today she informs the kids (and homeschooling parents) that she just came back from a long run. How nice! She is telling this to families who are working at home for their own jobs plus doing the teachers' jobs while teachers are being paid to go out and run. Sorry, I may sound petty right now, but I am angry that they wrote off my daughter (who does have some development delays) but is perfectly smart and VERY GOOD AT MATH! |

My first two graduated from public school and they thrived in the environment. My third has health issues, so we’d rather just do school at home. We love it!!!!! "Don't look back, you're not going that way." "As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” |

Once you all get used to it, you'll find your child can breeze through so much in a day. I homeschooled my kids and was always worried we weren't doing enough because they would have all their work done in 2 hours, so I started creating our own program and made it more challenging. Long story short, they ended up so far ahead and we actually had time to look into things more that they were interested in. Public school is comparable to a magazine- short little bits of info to memorize for use on standardized test. I'm glad your able to spend time helping your daughter and you moved past her trouble with math- which probably just was her questions weren't ever addressed. Happy for you all. |

Both have never set foot in a public school. In Cali. Internet school. Works for us. Neither have never set foot in a public school. Quoting: EllenRipley I can see why. She has learned more in 3 weeks than she has learned since school started in August. And she has lots of breaks and playtime during the day so we only work in total about 3 hours a day...but I am seeing great results. |

YOUR school board remains the problem along w/these teachers not protesting the crap curricula presented to them to program their students with. get the hell down to every school board meeting held, open your mouth regarding the shyte being told to your children, remind THEM WHO PAYS THEIR SALARIES and these school closures made it all possible to EXPOSE THE CRAP the children are being indoctrinated with. since the sk00ls also get $$$ based on enrollment and attendance, remove them AFTER being fully informed on YOUR RIGHTS--also sign on w/the home schooling groups and associations for your state. Make them lose money. concerns on what to do if both parents work full time are simple--form groups --it can get done. network w/as many as you can,get organised ,be knowledgeable on exactly what your state demands and do it. |

Quoting: EllenRipley i bet the schools in cali are a hot mess luckily where im at they seem good so far Cali schools are a joke. Common core is a joke. Here is an example of common core: "what addition equation helps you solve 10-8?" They want the child to say "8+2=10" For children that are already struggling with math, and finally get a concept, then they throw in a question like that, is a bunch of bullshit. The very reason so many are struggling in school is because of their common core bullshit. It is no longer about letting the children solve it on their own, in their own way. It is about "explain how you got your answer". If a child is able to do it their head with mental math, that doesn't matter anymore. What matters is the ability to explain how they got their answer, which I think is ridiculous. So even if they get the correct answer, if the child doesn't show or explain their work, they still get it wrong. As a home schooling mom, I hate fucking "common core" which is a requirement in Cali |

I had to take a few days to learn the common core speak before I could work with her...it is nonsense! Now I understand why my daughter hated Math and would throw fits when she had to do homework. What I realized over the last couple of weeks is she was confused by all the different methods. That's it. Yet the teachers just recently requested a special education IEP for Math. It happened right before the shutdown and we didn't sign anything yet. But if we did, California would be paying for a counselor, a special ed teacher, special ed aid and the math teacher all to deal with my daughters "issues." You know what the issue was...she was discouraged from memorizing addition and subtraction and told to draw out every equation in either a number line, base ten blocks, etc. And she would get frustrated. So we spent the first few days going back to her flash cards and now she is rocking and getting the concepts because she isn't wasting time drawing ten blocks or jumping 10 blocks...lol. |
