Went to the store yesterday. Portland, Oregon. Fred Meyer store, owned by Kroger. They have relatively cheap unfrozen chicken breast there. The sign said you can only buy two packages. And there were plenty of packages. When I got them home, opened the packages, I found out they smelled slightly.

Praying that the freezer holds out and the power stays on.

Get a good food dryer whilst you can still afford one that a solar panel can keep running - buy that too if you don't have one. Start drying at least half of any meat you can get. The dryer has to be a good one with temperature controls, especially if you're going to try it with quick-spoiling meats like chicken or pork. Just for good measure, give the cut-up chicken or pork a quick blanching in boiling water first. About one minute. Pat dry and straight into the dryer.

If you can, get a pressure canner too. Hot water bath canning isn't good enough for meat. You're screwed anyway if you have to depend upon 'the grid' to preserve your foods for you. You must not have dogs and cats or you'd have been thinking of this already. You, the human, can make it okay without meat but they cannot.
