Australia should threaten China with taking back Port of Darwin: Christensen

LNP MP George Christensen said when responding to the coronavirus, Communist China “corralled the problem for themselves, and sent (the virus) across the world”.

Mr Christensen has called China’s recent trade actions against Australia a “bastard act,” and said it was far “too convenient and too much of a coincidence” that only weeks after the government called for a global inquiry into COVID-19, for China to then threaten tariffs.

China has given the nation’s barley producers ten days before potentially imposing close to an 80 per cent tax on its barley imports.

“These are not the actions of a reputable trading partner”.

This comes as an ongoing committee into the need for diversification in Australia’s trade relationships – chaired by Mr Christensen – is preparing to call on the ambassador to give testimony.

“China’s got form on this sort of coercion when it comes to trade and mixing trade with politics".

Mr Christensen told Sky News hosts Alan Jones and Graham Richardson Australia should consider using the clause in the Port of Darwin lease contract with China which renders the deal null and void in the case of a national security emergency.

“If we don’t get the beef and barley back pronto and stop talking about other industries, we can actually take some action of our own, then it is a trade war”.

Re: Australia should threaten China with taking back Port of Darwin: Christensen

Australia now faces both short and long term problems with an "aggressive" communist China which has launched "a shot across the bows" at our nation says the Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute Peter Jennings.

Mr Jennings told Sky News host Peter Gleeson the recent trade tensions between the two countries can be seen as a "shot across the bows" from China at Australia.

On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Marise Payne played down suggestions Australia is on the brink of a trade war after China suspended imports from four abattoirs.

The decision raised concerns of a trade stoush between the two nations over Australia's push for an independent inquiry into the origins of COVID-19.

The suspension came just days after China announced it would level tariffs on Australian barely produces amid an anti-dumping investigation.

Mr Jennings also said the communist regime has now sent "a warning to Australia not to embarrass China" in an upcoming World Health Assembly meeting.

"The longer term problem is we will constantly come up against these types of challenges of dealing with a much more aggressive one party state in Beijing," Professor Jennings said.

Sky News host Paul Murray says it is becoming quite obvious a lot of people are going to “choose the mighty Chinese currency over Australian values” as tensions continue to rise between the two nations.

China on Monday threatened to place a close to 80 per cent tariff on Australian barley exports, under the guise of an 'anti-dumping probe,' giving the Australian government less than two weeks to resolve the issue.

The communist country has now chosen to suspend imports from four separate Australia abattoirs, one of which is Chinese owned.

He said there will a number of people in business, politics, and acadaemia who will claim Australia needs to “moderate this discussion with China” and massage the relationship.

“Well they lined up around the block today, these are the sell outs”.

Mr Murray pointed to the Queensland and WA Premiers as well as the Victorian treasurer who “think the dollar is more important than the principle”.

“This is frightening how compromised our leaders are”.

It's debatable if the global pandemic is enough to invoke the force majure clause.

China has been all over Australia since the 60s. We need to be firm but sensible about this.

CIA claim China pushed for World Health Organisation to downplay deadly coronavirus

Sky News host Rita Panahi says a report has emerged involving claims made by the CIA which portrays some “fairly worrying insights into how China and the World Health Organisation interact”.

A recent article has stated the CIA believes China tried to stop the World Health Organisation from sounding the alarm on the pandemic.

The intention of that, according to the article, was to allow China time to buy up medical supplies before the rest of the world.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

Kick the Chinese bastards out of everything and everywhere. We can all make new trade deals good for everyone once we get the cancer of China out of everything.

The free world has to back eachother up and stick together against these communist scums. Every deal with China is a bad deal. Economic activity is not a good thing when China is involved. We are all much better off in the long run if we cut out China now. It is time to face the music that we all made a mistake allowing China to participate with the free world in trade. Now we all need to step up and do what it takes to get rid of them. Tolerance of China and communist behaviors has to erode quickly. They are the enemy of the whole world and the whole world is under attack by them right now. We have to fight back. Every free nation there is should quickly make it illegal for any raw materials or food to be sent to communist China from their countries. Everything we have allowed them to have has been used against us. Everything we allow them to have from here will also be used against us. We gotta cut these commies off.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne has hit back at accusations she is allowing Liberal backbenchers to dictate the direction of relationships with China.

Liberal senators have taken aim at China’s handling of the coronavirus and pushed the government to not allow itself to be coerced by China.

Tensions have risen after China threatened economic sanctions on Australia if the government did not drop its push for a probe into the origins of the virus, threatening to impose significant tariffs on Australian barley exports and blacklisting four Australian abattoirs.

Trade Minister Simon Birmingham said he was not yet able to secure a meeting with his Chinese counterpart to discuss the situation.

Ms Payne stated the move to suspend Australian exports to China was not a political matter, as the issue of the coronavirus remained separate from trade relations.

The Communist Party of China is “attempting to teach Australia a lesson” and its recent trade ploys have not occurred “by accident,” says The Australian’s Editor-at-Large Paul Kelly.

“China is attempting to teach Australia a lesson … I think they are trying to intimidate Australia,” Mr Kelly told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“We’ve seen these two trade events coming up in the last couple of days … this doesn’t happen by accident as far as China’s concerned,” Mr Kelly said.

Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce says Australia and the world need to tell China it must “start acting not only as a super power in strength, but a super power in your philosophy,” and in the way it deals with the “new global environment”.

Mr Joyce said Australia cannot quit its current line pushing for a global inquiry because if you step down to someone who’s “bullying you, then get read to be pushed all around the playground”.

He told Sky News host Paul Murray in reality China “doesn’t really care what happens in Australia” because in its mind Australia is “irrelevant; we’re three-fifths of five-eights of nothing”.

“We have to make sure that we don’t dance closely with elephants because the elephants will squash us”.

There is a ‘frightening bigger picture’ behind Beijing’s threats

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says there is something “really frightening about China” under President Xi Jinping with the regime becoming an evermore “aggressive and dangerous power”.

“You know the really frightening thing about China,” Mr Bolt said.

“It's not that it’s just threatening us with trade bans to make us shut up about wanting an independent inquiry into how this coronavirus started.

“What's really frightening is how many other countries China is threatening. Neighbours and friends”.

Mr Bolt said a recent press conference involving China’s foreign ministry spokesman portrayed “a real sign of how many countries China is now bullying”.

“New Zealand. Japan, Vietnam, more. That's the bigger picture”.

US agencies have warned hackers linked to China have attempted to steal vital coronavirus research.

In the latest escalation of tensions between the US and China over the pandemic, the FBI and Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency said they were investigating the “targeting and compromise” of US research groups.

They also warned the hacking attempt could jeopardise the delivery of treatments
