I bought a sig P220 45 acp tonight...pros? Cons?...used I've been watching them for a while...
I was bidding on one used p220 without book, no magazine or case. It went for $505.

I started looking around & found the exact piece, 2 mags, book & soft case for $550. Plus in better condition.

Anybody been pricing these?
I'm going to use it for concealed carry. I'm in Michigan.

Is that a descent price for a good used p220?

I bid up to $401...but reluctant to go higher.
It's on gunbroker.

Do they normally go for over 4 or 5 hundred bucks?
For 2 or 3 hundred dollars I could buy something new.

I have a Taurus ACP45. Bullets cost too much, and too uncomfortable to practice with do to recoil. Good for self defense, but not for target practice or fun.

I shoot my 9mm 50x more.

Nice gun, but to big and to heavy for concealed carry, EDC.
Soon you will be leaving it at home, as it is to much weight.

Which is why most people go to a small 9 mm or 380.
You also have a better chance of hitting the target and not killing a bystander with them.
You only need to stop the threat, not kill it. A .45 is overkill and the prosecutor will use that against you in court.

Stopping the threat doesn't mean it's eliminated.
9mm or 380 are just too small if you need to stop a group of people. I agree might be too heavy for cc.

Re: I bought a sig P220 45 acp tonight...pros? Cons?...used I've been watching them for a while...
Now get yourself something for that P220 to snack on, I recommend the Federal "classic" 230 grain hollow points. They are affordable compared to the latest greatest "ultra hyper defense" rounds, very accurate, and very repeatable for any rounds not just factory loads. They will expand well while dumping all that weight and energy into the target, that's what matters...it's the stopping power, the shock wave creating the wound channel/damage/trauma. Practice when you can, in every way you can (lefty, righty, daytime/night time, just waking up, after running full speed almost as far as you can, bacon grease and honey all over your hands), you get the idea practice for any situation even slippery ones.

If it didn't come with the thin aluminum grips like my P220R Dark Elite has, get some (I think Hogue machines them for Sig). They are extremely well textured without being like a wood rasp, believe me grip in bad situations is a friend. Sig makes extended magazines 10 rounds, which gives you 11 if you keep one in the pipe, I like them they're pretty tastefully done/designed but those extra rounds are the real deal, it's nice having them ready Freddie when we aren't hauling around a pea shooter with 15+ rounds.

Keep it clean, I like Mil-Comm cleaner, oil, and grease. It doesn't have the typical scent that could spell doom in a lawless future bad situation, nobody can smell this stuff and it works incredibly well. If you bought the pistol new, it would have come with a small sample amount of Mil-Comm grease, when Sig puts it every gun box that says a lot. A stainless guide rod will add a balance point you will love, the polymer one is too light which is just fine until you shoot with a stainless one in there, look to Sig for one of those and I'm pretty sure they have ones coated black or just silver. They've always been very friendly whenever I've talked to them.

Now, don't shoot your eye out (of the back of your skull), and have fun. Watch your background. Oh by the way, if it doesn't have a safety (mine doesn't externally), be careful and NEVER leave it around children.

I have recently been ordering ammo from sportsman's Warehouse .com

They ship for free, to the warehouse closest to you.

You get many more choices of ammo on their website, than at the store.

I have owned 2 Sig's. They are fine weapons, and smooth.

Get a nice pancake holster that rides close to there body. Blackhawk now makes one.

Its summer. I wear a sleeveless shirt and show the whole town my muscled arms. You tards don't need a gun when you're double stacked like me. If a guy tries anything with me Ill make him a pretzel. .45 ACP! please I could outrun that slow bullet designed over a hundred years ago. Might as well bought a musket.

Cons of the P220 is capacity. Have you looked at the P227? About the same size as the P226, but with 10 or 15 round extended mags.

Purchase some PVC and lantern starter and make a potato gun. With some creativity, you can make it semiautomatic and lob spuds at your enemies.

We have one of those just moved into town. They have a ton of ammo in stock in the store. About the same price as bulk online. Limited to 4 boxes per caliber though....So I bought 4 100 round boxes of 300BLK instead of 20 rd boxes. Now I'll have enough brass to last a lifetime. Also had a Leopold scope there. Matched the best price I could find online and in stock...then applied veterans discount to all this. Beats the hell outtake the field and stream that was there before.

I owned one of the first when Browning imported
it under their own label as the BDA (around 1980).

An awesome gun in many ways, accurate, controllable recoil, reliable but... it's Double Action on first shot, Single
action on subsequent shots. That's been mostly abandoned
now as it does cause shot shift and I definitely had an
issue with first shot placing higher than the rest.

$500 is a good price, I SOLD mine almost 20 years
ago for $500.
