I had 4 old hens. One was not laying. I asked my teenage son to go catch one of the old ones. I'm pretty sure he picked the one that was still laying. I'm not doing vent sexing. I'd rather guess, lol. The best stories are told by the survivors. |

Buy pullets, 20 % roosters. 35 years, muliple hatcheries. For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible. Well, I have buff orpingtons, plus others. They currently have no rooster. So I've been buying chicks, hoping to get a rooster, but I have had no luck so far. So I am hoping for a brahma rooster, but I'm ok with it if they are both hens. I have a Swedish flower rooster you can have in NC. |

Females are generally like a dark brown, with gray penciling. I.e., their feathers are outlined in white. I'm trying to figure out if roosters are always starkly different, or if they can be penciled too. my 2 hens look like that but thyre more black and white in color. |

Next is speckled Sussex. and yes I know I spelled Maran wrong. |
