Re: Pier 1 Imports To Close All 540 Stores After 58 years
All of these kinds of stores were already on their deathbed... this virus just pushed them all over. If I'm going to spend $100 on a wicker basket I'm going to buy that shit from a local person that made that shit themselves. You go online and all these places, Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target, etc ALL OF THEM source all the same shit from the same places... literally carrying all the same items.

The big box experience is over. What will win out are locally owned places for niche / boutique customer service / experience oriented shops. People are done going to Best Buy to get a fucking radio or speaker or even television.

The Pier One business model is done. If you don't like it, prepare to endure a shit storm of pain because they're all going away. Same with your cash. Your gold bars ain't gonna save you either.

The writing has been on the wall for a while and if you haven't seen it or refuse to accept it, you will be left out of the new economy. This shit happens every 80 years, it's not new. People bitching about all the Sears and JC Penny closings are the same people bitching about how dangerous cars were and how horses were the best option and they'd "never own a car".

Get ready gang, you'll be supporting more local business and buying your mass produced shit on Amazon. You will be using crypto / blockchain based services and exchanges of value. You can say you won't but you'll just suffer. There are some of us out here that figured it out long ago, bought in, and are now just waiting for the other side to appear.

The only problem, however, is these 80 year cycles are often surrounded with massive crushing war. What was the transition point for the previous two cycles? The Civil War, WWII. And not the Rona. That's the level of change that's about to happen.

That store had unique stuff, same as Cost Plus World Market does.

When the dust settles all we will have is Ikea, Walmart and Target. Bland crap, and what everyone else owns.

Welcome to the "NEW WORLD".

Most of their customers called it quits years ago. There are too many other places to get better stuff now, for a lot less money. Home goods, TJ maxx etc.

Me too. There going to take away anything remotely interesting and different and leave us with Walmart, etc. I'm so disgusted.

Yes, prepare to decorate in Walmart pressed wood self-assembly. Your home will be Walmart cookie-cutter decor.

Doesn't surprise me. Kirkland's is much better and has great sales and discounts. Stopped shopping at Pier 1 probably 2 decades ago.

I agree. It’s terrible anymore. We gotta choose between iffy stuff from China sold at Walmart and iffy stuff from China sold on Amazon. Americans aren’t tough enough to take things back. They’re too comfortable in their rapidly-aging particle board suburban homes and stuffing their faces with comfort food and slapping their fat bodies together to give a shit about what’s coming.

Pier 1 Imports is calling it quits.

The bankrupt home-goods retailer has asked a court for permission to liquidate its remaining 540 stores once they reopen after coronavirus-driven lockdowns, ending a 58-year legacy of selling glassware, wicker furniture and other home decor.

Don't worry you'll find their inventory on Amazon, Etsy, Alibaba or any one of dozens of online outlets now existing or to pop up.

It's too bad the liquidators always mark everything up to "full retail", more expensive than what it sold for new when the store was open. Then people take everything good when it's only 10-20% off, which is still higher than their actual retail after coupons and sales. Nothing left worthwhile after that.

I always figured Pier 1 was a CIA front because I never saw anyone buy anything in there, everything was way too expensive. Never had any customers.

Good. Overpriced yuppy bullshit. I once saw a fuckin' 100 dollar basket there. Told my woman no fucking way. Bought a damn similar one for 8 at big lots. Its sites next to my shitter. She wanted to spend 100 on a shitter basket. Fuck that store.

Conversely, JC penny is an actual loss.

Used to be cool but after the last recession in 2008 it changed dramatically and really inflated their prices even more. Surprised it lasted this long.
