Lots of male attention, even if it's just sleazy guys on facebook or twitter, makes them feel better about themselves.

Also, online acquaintances = more romantic or sexual options, which provides a psychological buffer zone against being abandoned by a current husband/partner, or against feelings of self-doubt in the event they are having trouble finding a suitable husband/partner.
