I live in Canada so we have the Metric system but for building stuff we still use the imperial system. There are certain jobs that do use the Metric system though so I have experience with using both systems and I can tell you from personal experience, I'll take the imperial system for measurements every day. |

Preferred 1:4 scale drawing in inches, when CAD came along it didn't matter any more. When components & catalogs switched over the inch system dropped away. More importantly UNC & UNF also fell out of fashion which was a pity. Took a long time for steel sections to go metric,still plenty of inch sizes available. If I design a part for US machine today it will be in metric, general machine shops got rid of their inch mics decades ago. In summary, it doesn't matter, either or. |

Leaving 6 numbers beyond the decimal? And then why do machinists typically use decimal 10 based fractions like thousandths or 10-thousandths of an inch? Why don't they use non-decimal fractions? Your assertion makes no sense at all.  |
