Never shoot to kill, but if they have a hole in their foot that will slow them down. That goes against all advice I have ever heard from police, lawyers, and other subject matter experts. If you ever shoot at someone you shoot to kill. I can't tell you how many times I've personally heard this straight from an officer's mouth. I'm a firearms instructor certified to teach nationally. You do not shoot to kill and you do not state that you shoot to kill. Ever. You shoot to STOP THE THREAT. If the result of stopping that threat is death, then that is the result. No more, no less. If you are ever arrested for shooting someone, say nothing except asking to speak to an attorney before saying a word about what happened. When you finally give a statement with an attorney present: "My Life was in imminent danger of severe bodily injury or death. I shot to stop the threat in defense of my life." This is not legal advice. Thank you. Exactly what I’ve been instructed. This may have been a different story if the perps body was inside the shop Pawn shops hold more than jewelry and 2nd hand guitars. Pawn shops have guns in their inventory. I hope the shop owner is not actually prosecuted but if he is he needs to explain his actions were taken to ensure public safety. Eternal vigilance Is the price of liberty. Speak out and be heard. Be seen and get noticed. Stand up and be counted. Cherish freedom. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77288913 First, apparently MN law does not have a stand your ground law for businesses. From what little I've read, it's different if this was his home. Second, the guy died outside on the sidewalk, not inside the business. Maybe he was shot inside and staggered out, I don't know. Hope this shop owner has video. But I know here in CA, you can't shoot them unless they are actually inside your residence. That is a good law, since there are so many trigger happy jerks just waiting to murder people. It's best to warn them first with warning shots and most criminals will run away. WHen there is a riot like that you don't try to save a pawn shop. They are always first to go because the people hate them |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78589210 [link to heavy.com (secure)] "John Rieple, the owner of Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, a store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been booked on a murder accusation after a man was found dead of a gunshot wound on a sidewalk near Rieple’s business, according to Hennepin County jail records. The shooting came amidst a night of major unrest in Minneapolis following the Monday death of George Floyd after a police officer restrained Floyd with a knee pressed to his neck. Anger over Floyd’s death spilled into the streets, as people looted and torched businesses. Videos showed heavy looting at Rieple’s store. A graphic video, which you can watch later in this article, shows the shooting aftermath outside Cadillac Pawn & Jewelry, but be aware that it’s very disturbing. In that video, bystanders claim someone was “shooting from the pawn shop,” which police haven’t confirmed." In black folks and demonRats minds it's illegal to shoot and kill any black person even if it's in self-defense. yet they're entitle to attack anyone who they believe is a Trump supporter or anyone whom they thini said the N word. They ARE the definition of Nazi-fascism. TheDiLeMmA |

Never shoot to kill, but if they have a hole in their foot that will slow them down. That's bad advice, bro.. you'll get sued. you are correct. There have been many cases of wounded criminals suing. Some funny ones is where a criminal was injured by a booby trap during his crime--and they sued--and the innocent perp was charged with a crime. Logic has been turned on its head. Looters should be shot on sight. |

All the States have different laws on this stuff. In these troubled times it's best to be aware of what those laws are. I am not familiar with Minnesotta's. But it would have been better if the perp was inside AND pointed in the direction of the shooter. Now if this had been in Louisiana I doubt if the shop owner would have been charged. I would imagine Dem States are much stricter on when you can protect yourself with lethal force. "Everybody lies." |

Never shoot to kill, but if they have a hole in their foot that will slow them down. Try to shoot someone in the foot during a high stress moment when chaos is erupting all around you. Good luck making that shot. He probably shot the guy as he was running out of the store. Big mistake. You cannot shoot someone retreating. They must be posing IMMEDIATE AND OTHERWISE UNAVOIDABLE DANGER OF DEATH OR GRAVE BODILY HARM TO THE INNOCENT. In other words you can’t shoot someone who “should” be shot, shoot only if they “need” to be shot. It’s especially sticky if the state the incident happens in is not stand your ground. I feel bad for the shop owner but when I heard that happened I knew he’d be charged with murder. He’ll also be hit with a civil suit. Only use your gun if your life, your loved ones life or an innocent is in immediate danger. it’s a dry heat... |

The owner cannot shoot a looter in his store just for looting unless his life was in immediate danger.... Lets say the owner blocked the front door and a looter came at him with a weapon, that would be self defense if the owner shot the looter for being in the store, that's not self defense.... |

Enough to nail center mass consistently but I can only imagine the chaos in that shop. it’s a dry heat... |
