JUST IN: Donald Trump denies being briefed about Russian bounties on US troops

In early 2020, members of the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group, known to the public as SEAL Team Six, raided a Taliban outpost and recovered roughly $500,000. The recovered funds further solidified the suspicions of the American intelligence community that the Russians had offered money to Taliban militants and linked associations.

One official said the administration discussed several potential responses, but the White House has yet to authorize any step.

The intelligence officials said that Trump was briefed on the bounty matter earlier this year; however, Trump has denied that, tweeting Sunday neither he nor Vice President Mike Pence had been briefed. Trump tweeted Sunday night he was just told intelligence officials didn’t report the information to him because they didn’t find it credible.

This is very fake news. I watched the presser and that is not what transpired at all. McEnay must have told four different reports fifteen times in six different ways that: The report was false and couldn't be verified therefore there is nothing to brief the president on.

This does not mean he's claiming ignorance that some elicit affair transpired and nobody told him. This means the entire report is fabricated and no serious intelligence officer takes it seriously so they aren't EVER going to "brief" POTUS on a non-issue that was made up and poses no risk to national security.

McEnany sidesteps questions on Russian bounty intel

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Monday sidestepped questions about reports that Russia offered bounties to Taliban fighters to target U.S. military members in Afghanistan.

McEnany stuck closely to talking points throughout the briefing, repeating several times that “there is no consensus within the intelligence community” on the intelligence related to the Russian bounty program. Pressed for specifics about whether the president was made aware of the intelligence, she declined to elaborate beyond saying that Trump had not been personally briefed on the information.

“The U.S. receives thousands of reports a day on intelligence and they are subject to strict scrutiny,” McEnany said, reading from prepared notes. “While the White House does not routinely comment on alleged intelligence or internal deliberations, the CIA director, NSA and chief of staff can all confirm that neither the president nor the vice president were briefed on the alleged Russian bounty intelligence.”

“There is no consensus within the intelligence community on these allegations, and in fact there are dissenting opinions from some in the intelligence community,” she added.

McEnany wouldn’t say whether the intelligence was in the President’s Daily Brief, a top-secret summary of high-level intelligence that is given to Trump daily, only reiterating that he was not “personally briefed on the matter.”

She later sidestepped a question about how Trump could be sure the intelligence was not credible if he had not been briefed on it, instead accusing The New York Times of “irresponsible” reporting.

Several Republican lawmakers were at the White House for a briefing on the matter as McEnany spoke.

So if the report is indeed "fake news NYT", which seems to be the explainer here, why have Congressional leaders been called in to the White House for a briefing on Russian bounties on US troops?

The only reason for that WH intelligence briefing for GOP congressmen (no Democrats were allowed) was to give weak House Republicans talking points so they could run to Fox News and claim the President isn’t an incompetent traitor.
