the elephants were cool in person.

felt sorry for them but they were loved..

If they are sure they all died suddenly, then I agree it sounds like some large amount of gas was released from the earth. CO2, H2S, methane.

Could also be some toxic algae bloom in the water, similar to red tide.

or Elephant ebola if there is such a thing.
