Kerosene is flammable but not volatile. Gasoline is both and why it works in a combustion engine so that the spark firing can drve a piston to perform useful mechanical work.

Those fumes waft through the area and are near invisible. The smallest spark ignites and many a fool using gasoline instead or kerosene to burn a field, then nearly loses an earand maybe skin grafts. Luxkily they have the skin gun now that sprays totipotent cells to regenerate the skin.

If there were a collapse, and you needed to harvest some fuel, please have a spark arrestor.

There are special pumps with brass fittings as if you used standard ones, one might strike a surface and spark, and then BOOM.

If we could just rig up something like that at the border.

yea that area is super poor, if this happens many people see it as a way of having something extra but well, you dont want to stand near a leaking fuming bomb. im amazed the police was not removing them.

There is no real "explosion" here as much as there is just an instant fire. I've used accelerants to start many fires. They can all be dangerous to some extent. But, gasoline is the worst. You have to make sure EVERYTHING is right before you touch it off.

What you heard was the "whoosh..." of ignition. Seldom does it actually explode. The fumes can detonate but usually its just instant fire everywhere.

DON'T MESS WITH GASOLINE!

I demonstrated to my kids the difference between gas and diesel. I started a small fire and dumped a teacup of diesel on it. It put it out.

I started the same sized fire and dumped the same amount of gasoline on it and WHOOSH! Dangerous.

That being said, I fill small aluminum beverage cans with gasoline (7oz coke or pepsi), light the top of them and then shoot them with specialized (super high speed) 5.56 or 30-06 rounds. Even at 100 yards you can feel the heat. Its kind of scary.

Actually, it did happen. Reports are someone lit a match to light a cigarette resulting in 153 deaths, 100+ injured.
